When you look at your record are you satisfied up to this point of the season?

"No, we are never satisfied over here at the Chargers organization.  We always strive to do better and that's what we are going to do, and just making strides to do better."

During the Miami game you didn't show up in the stat line, how do you feel physically right now?

"I feel pretty good.  I feel like I'm doing my job and my responsibility and that's the most important to do what I have to do to help the team."

One day on the injury report it said calf and the other day it was ankle, is it both?  Is it one or the other?  What was the injury?

Ankle

Did it happen in a game?  Did it happen in practice?  Specifically when did that go down?

"It happened against New England."

Chargers Interviews: Randy McMichael 9/26

AP Photo/Eric Gay

With Antonio Gates out for an undetermined amount of time, Randy McMichael steps to the forefront at the tight end position in the San Diego Chargers offense.  Ben Higgins of "The World of Sports" caught up with Randy and this is what he had to say.

(Download/Listen to the entire interview here)

Is their such a thing as an ugly win?

"Not in this league.  I don't think that there is any league that's gonna say it's an ugly win.  I think the ultimate goal of any sport is to win."

Should you have gotten out to a bigger league in the first half?

"Oh definitely, we know we could have done a lot of things better, to certainly help our defense out. We put our defense in some bad spots there, but they did a good job of holding them.  We're not where we want to be right now.  We're still growing and getting the timing down with everyone, we still have a lot of work to do."

Would you say the offense is a little out of sync?

"I definitely think so, and that just goes to show the fact you that we got here as soon as the lockout was ending, right into training camp.  So, we really didn't get a chance to gel like we wanted to and needed to.  It's still a work in process, I think that's for every team in the NFL right now.  I don't think nobody is right where they want to be at all of the sudden and that's the great thing about it.  You win the game and yet, you still know that there is room for you to improve."

Chargers Interview - Ryan Mathews 9/14

Photo

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews was on with Chris Ello of The World of Sports on XTRA Sports 1360 this week.  Here are a few of the quotes from the interview... y'know.

(Listen/Download Ryan Mathews interview here)

Assessing his performance in week one.

"I think I did good.  I just took everything I learned over the preseason and tried to add it in.  I just went back and watched film of the Vikings game, you know every game you can learn something new and I'm just going to keep putting it together and get ready for the Pats game."

Did the Vikings do a lot to take stuff away down the field?

"I think they were trying to take that deep threat away.  Me and Mike are good enough athletes to, you know, if we get the ball five yards within the line of scrimmage we can turn it into a 10 yard gain or 15 yard gain.  So what we have is a good deal."

Have an idea how good this team is going to be?

"Well, I think we can be really good, we've got a long ways to go though.  First two preseason games we cruised along and didn't have many bumps in the road and Saturday we had a few hiccups.  I think it was good for us though, to deal with some adversity here in the preseason when it doesn't count, let's see how we react.  So, we've got a few weeks now before the opener, so we gotta bear down."

San Diego Chargers Interviews - Eric Weddle 8/23

San Diego Chargers free safety talked with Chris Ello and Ben Higgins on "The World of Sports"

Listen/Download the entire interview here

On Weddle's interception in Dallas

It's always awesome to make a play, especially an interception and give the ball back to the offense.  That's the plan, not only for myself, but for this defense.  Create turnovers and be the best in the league.

That's our focus day in and day out.  Today is now, get the most out of today, don't worry about the past or the future.  Let's just get the most out of today.

On being called the highest paid safety in the NFL

It's exciting to be here for the next five years and hopefully longer.  Keep my level of play up and continue to have a great team, but honestly it's been great.  Knowing I'm going to be here, the guys around me.  I'm confident, I'm excited to be here, I'm excited to play ball, and football is here.  It doesn't get any better than this.

I'm just here to play my game, to get better and continue to be the guy my teammates expect me to be.  A leader, a great player, and a guy that makes plays.

Training Camp Interview with Larry English

Going into the 2011 San Diego Chargers season, it could be argued that no one will be under the microscope more than former first round pick Larry English. For the first time in his career English will have a starting position.  No longer sitting and watching Phillips and Merriman, this is his time to shine.

English started only two of the eight games he appeared in last season, but he did give Chargers fans a reason to be excited. November 22nd vs. the visiting Broncos English earned his full full sack of the season.  Three weeks later vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, English was able to tally a sack and a half.

San Diego Chargers on the Radio 8/15 - Bob Sanders

San Diego Chargers strong safety Bob Sanders joined "The World of Sports" on XTRA 1360 this week.  Here are some of the quotes from the interview.

How much change do you need to make going from the Indianapolis Colts to the San Diego Chargers?

I've been in the league seven years now and it's tough going from a different team, but really everything, a lot of it is the same.  You know the terminology is different, you know the way we move around is a little bit different.  It's just getting back to doing the little details and making sure I'm sharp in my alignments and my assignments.  It's still football, but it is tough being away from it so long.

How different are the two organizations?

A lot of the things are similar, some little things here and there may be a little different but, you gotta expect that.  You gotta expect things not to be the same.  You've got different personalities, you've got the way things are handled by the team, you know the leaders of the team, the captains, those things so, there are some similarities, but there are differences and you've got to be able to adjust.

When did you discover you were going to be a hard hitter?

It probably started when I started playing little league, when I was about 12 years old.

San Diego Chargers on the Radio 8/4 - Corey Liuget

Chargers rookie DE Corey Liuget sat down with Josh and Charod on XTRA Sports 1360 to talk about his first day at camp, his contract situation, and being starstruck

Corey Liuget (listen to the interview here)

Do you feel that you are ready immediately to contribute?

"I still have a lot of learning to do.  I definitely can say, I can go out there and play, but this is definitely a learning step for me.  This is a different level, it's not quite college, but eventually I will be ready.  With the help of Jacques and the whole d-line and some of the guys on defense, and Coach Johnson and everybody just contributing to my success, I think I'll definitely be ready soon."

How nice is it that Jacques Cesaire is so willing and welcoming to bring you in?

"Him and the whole d-line, everyone has pretty much welcomed me in.  Jacques is taking more time out and little more effort to help me out and understand how to play this game for a very long time, as long as he did.  So, I definitely want to tip my hat to him and say thank you, and also thank you to the whole d-line, and everyone who's helping me."

Did you have a true moment of stepping on the field and realizing you're amongst some guys you've watch on TV on Sundays?

"Yes, I definitely have, realized, I'm looking like, dang, I was just watching this guy on TV.  It's definitely, kind of like a star struck thing to me, just seeing these guys, because these guys are idolized.  Eventually I wanted to get on their level, and now I'm here.  I'm on the next level and it's time to go!"
