Joe Barry is the San Diego Chargers New Linebackers Coach

It would appear that Joe Barry, currently working as the Linebackers Coach at his alma mater USC, has been picked by John Pagano to take the open Linebackers Coach position for the San Diego Chargers.

A rundown of Barry's history in the NFL lies after the jump.

Antonio Cromartie is Still Hurting the Chargers, Might Get Shaun Phillips Suspended

GET THAT HAT OFF YOUR HEAD. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig)

When the San Diego Chargers traded Cornerback Antonio Cromartie to the New York Jets after the 2009-10 NFL season, they were hoping that they had gotten rid of a locker room cancer. However, whenever he's had the chance to since the trade, "Cro" has done nothing but say bad things and cause trouble at Chargers Park.

During the 2009 season, there was a post-game incident down at PB's Bar West where a patron was hit in the head with a champagne bottle that had allegedly been thrown by Cromartie. The person who had been hit required 8 staples in his head to stop the bleeding and was about to receive a "modest" out-of-court settlement from Antonio, but that's about the time that Cro realized he has 18 mouths to feed and changed his story.

In just the past week, Cromartie signed a brief declaration, under penalty of perjury, stating: "I am of the belief that Shaun Phillips ... threw the object. I, however, do not have further knowledge as to additional specific details of the incident including when or why Mr. Saran was struck with the object ... I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct."

The declaration could be used in civil proceedings in a new lawsuit filed by Saran against Phillips, a star linebacker for the Chargers.

While Phillips has had a series of run-ins with the law, he has never been charged.

Chuck Pagano Hires Greg Manusky to be Defensive Coordinator for Colts

Chuck Pagano, who was hired as the Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts last week, has started to assemble his coaching staff and has decided that Greg Manusky is the best candidate to be his Defensive Coordinator.

Despite the fact that Manusky has done a poor job as coordinator for the Chargers (in 2011) and the 49ers (2007-2010) before that, his defense played really well against the Ravens late in the season when Baltimore wasn't able to stop the San Diego Chargers' offense. This game, paired with Manusky being familiar with the 3-4 defense and the incredibly thin coaching market, played at least a part in Pagano's decision.

San Diego Chargers in the Pro Bowl: Recap

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson (83) demonstrates why he should never be allowed to run with the football. (AP Photo/Marco Garcia)

Philip Rivers - 11/19, 190 pass yds, 2 TDs, 1 INT
The San Diego Chargers' QB threw the most passes for the AFC and the second-most passes of any QB in the game (Cam Newton was first and threw 3 INTs).

Ryan Mathews - 8 carries, 35 rush yds
Bam Bam's 8 carries tied him for the most in the game with Marshawn Lynch. His 4.4 yards per carry is not outstanding, but in the Pro Bowl it's rare to find a player have a standout game.

Antonio Gates - 3 catches, 67 rec yds, 1 TD
Apparently it doesn't matter which team Gates is on, he'll still finish the game with a few catches for 50+ yards and a TD. The man is a picture of consistency, and the fact that he even played in this game is a tribute to how good his foot was feeling by the end of the season.

Find out how Vincent Jackson and Eric Weddle did in the game after the jump.

San Diego: The Chargers have the least work to do. They need to hire a linebackers coach to replace John Pagano, who was promoted to defensive coordinator earlier this month.

What’s This "Status Quo" Chargers Movie Mash-up All About? | LobShots
So, the "movie". I don’t get it? I get they’re trying to be funny… an end of the world movie mashed-up with Chargers clips of back-to-back non playoff years. I get the part about Spanos settling for mediocrity by keeping Norv and AJ and blah, blah, blah. I don’t get the purpose of it though? Why is it on a local news station? Who made it? Did Fox5 actually make it? What’s the endgame here?

Rich Bisaccia Named San Diego Chargers Assistant Head Coach

As predicted here many times, the San Diego Chargers have named Special Teams Coach Rich Bisaccia as their Assistant Head Coach after the departure of former Assistant Head Coach Steve Wilks. Bisaccia was the Assistant Head Coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2008-2010, with whom he also won a Super Bowl with.

Bisaccia was brought on by the Chargers to replace Steve Crosby, who took the brunt of the blame for the Bolts' historically bad 2010 season on Special Teams. From the Chargers' wonderful PR staff, here's a summary of what Bisaccia was able to do in his first year in San Diego:

He helped develop young special teams players like Richard Goodman (fourth in the NFL in kickoff returns), and Darrell Stuckey and Andrew Gachkar, who tied for the team lead with 12 special teams tackles each.

Kicker Nick Novak, brought in to replace an injured Nate Kaeding, made 27 of 34 field goals and set two team records under Bisaccia's watch, while Mike Scifres averaged a career high 47.5 yards per punt, none of which opposing players blocked or deflected (which happened five times in 2010).

The kickoff coverage unit took a leap forward, improving from 26th to 11th in the NFL. The Chargers also improved its punt coverage, allowing opponents 5.7 yards less per return and improving Scifres' net average by nearly nine yards.

Goodman's 105-yard kickoff return for a touchdown Jan. 1 at Oakland was a team record. The team also executed two successful onside kicks and a fake punt.

Bisaccia also famously mentored current NFL Head Coaches Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Leslie Frazier (Minnesota Vikings). It would appear that Bisaccia's chance to be a Head Coach is not too far away now.

San Diego Chargers Hire Ron Meeks to Coach Secondary

Ron Meeks (AP Photo/Rick Havner)

After Ron Rivera stole away the San Diego Chargers Secondary Coach and Assistant Head Coach Steve Wilks, Ron Meeks (who had been coaching the Carolina Panthers Secondary under Ron Rivera) found himself without a job. What better place to interview for a new job than where his replacement came from.

Meeks was a Defensive Coordinator in the NFL for close to 10 years, but when Rivera signed on to be the Head Coach of the Panthers he demoted Meeks to Secondary Coach. Ron could've possibly found a Defensive Coordinator position somewhere, but his long-time ties to Norv Turner seem to be a driving force behind why he's decided to sign on to coach the Secondary for the Chargers in 2012.

Meeks started his NFL career as a defensive assistant with the Dallas Cowboys in 1991, with Norv Turner on the staff as well. Before eventually becoming the Defensive Coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, where he won a Super Bowl with Tony Dungy, Meeks also coached the Secondary for Norv Turner's Washington Redskins teams.

As long as nobody else on the defensive staff runs to the Carolina Panthers (looking at you, Don Johnson), all that should be left for John Pagano is to find a replacement Linebackers Coach.

San Diego Chargers: Vincent Jackson and Ryan Mathews Added to AFC Pro Bowl Roster

"Thanks Randy. You know you're not coming, right?" (AP Photo/Waco Tribune Herald/ Jose Yau)

As the first alternate behind Wes Welker on the AFC Pro Bowl Roster, San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson was definitely rooting for the New England Patriots to defeat the Baltimore Ravens yesterday. When that happened, Jackson was bumped up a spot (with Welker being a little busy) and started planning for his free trip to Hawaii.

Ryan Mathews was the second alternate behind Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice and Houston Texans RB Arian Foster, both and whom are missing the game due to injury (or they need to rest their bodies up after a long season plus playoffs). Like Jackson and the rest of the players traveling to Hawaii, making the Pro Bowl will get Mathews some bonus money.

It will be Jackson's second Pro Bowl and Mathews' first. They will join teammates Antonio Gates, Philip Rivers and Eric Weddle to take on the NFC Pro Bowl team on Sunday.
