Ryan talks about the Chargers, Norv, and the new season. Cool bowtie too!
The left tackle's Wednesday release came with a June 1 designation...The base salary is removed from the books, meaning Gaither will cost only $2 million against the 2013 salary cap. In 2014, the remaining $4 million of Gaither's prorated bonus will count in dead money...Gaither would have cost $6 million in dead money in 2013 without the June 1 designation.
Hey all. I've been doing a fantasy football blog for a few years now and during the off season, I concentrate on the draft. I attempt to do a comprehensive draft, team by team, on what I would do as the team's GM. Check out what I've done for your team and drop a comment or two on what you think and what you might do differently. If you think it's worth a read, point others to the site that you think may be interested and come back for the other team write-ups. Also, if any of you are interesting in becoming a contributor and creating some posts, please let me know in the comments and we'll see about getting you set up. Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy it.
With free agency more than a week old, there have been numerous changes to the Chargers' roster. John Gennaro of Bolts from the Blue sums up who San Diego was able to add, who they had to let go, and explains the reasoning behind new general manager Tom Telesco's moves.
Looks like some of the particulars of AEG's planned LA stadium have come out. Apparently they made an offer to Dean for 49% of the team at a lowball price of $249 mil. The team turned them down, and the low price is likely what soured the league on the AEG plan. Nevermind that AEG tried to justify it by allowing the team to play at $1.8 billion Farmers Field which AEG would be footing the bill for. Also AEG wanted right of first refusal on the Bolts if the Spanos family ever sold.
This highlights the positives and negatives of our new signing Derek Cox before the 2012/13 season. He was the Jaguars secret superstar before the start of the season.
WIth all this talk of how little cap room the chargers have, I've been wondring who/what we're paying for. Behold! Spoiler alert: may be upsetting.
Apparently they gave him the lowest tender? I know his knee sucks, but whatever. Sports apathy!
The period to designate impending free agents with the franchise tag has come and gone with eight teams deciding to use the tag (down from 21 last year). The players designated are OTs Ryan Clady (Denver) and Branden Albert (Kansas City), DTs Randy Starks (Miami) and Henry Melton (Chicago), DE Michael Johnson (Cincinnati), LB Anthony Spencer (Dallas), S Jairus Byrd (Buffalo), and P Pat McAfee (Indianapolis). Brad Wells of SB Nation breaks down what it all means and examines key players who were able to avoid the tag, enabling them to shop their services on the open market next week.
