Which 1st Round Underdog Should We Take?

First question. How many of the so called "draft experts" on ESPN, NFL Network, or BFTB had us taking DJ Fluker at number 11 last year? Yep, that's right, nobody had a damn clue what the Jedi Knight Tom Telesco would do. But that was last year, and this time around we've got less holes to fill.

I think it's pretty conceivable that we're not in need of a 1st round talent at RB, QB, MLB, or TE; and the same could be said (although with less accuracy) about DE and S. With that said, it's not rocket science trying to figure out who we'll take in the 1st round this year; but it's not simple physics either...

Regarding the Chargers 1st round draft pick, three names keep coming up again and again. Jason Verrett, Louis Nix, and Marqise Lee. Yes, there are lots of other possibilities, but I want to focus on these three guys all for one reason. They're underdogs.

#1) Jason Verrett.

He could quite possibly be the most athletic CB in this year's draft, but he's significantly undersized and could have trouble facing bigger, stronger receivers such as Demaryius Thomas. He could be gone before we get a chance to pick him at #25, but he could also slide out of the 1st round altogether.

#2) Louis Nix.

The consensus is out on Louis Nix. He's the best prospect at NT in this draft.

Do the Chargers need another NT? Do Bears crap in the woods...?

Only thing is Nix has a looming knee injury, and his overall level of production is spotty throughout his college career. But bringing him in with Manti Teo could be a great move as far as cohesion goes on the defense. Like Jason Verrett, Nix could be gone before pick #25, but a lot of "draft experts" have him falling out of the 1st too.

#3) Marqise Lee:

As of late, Marqise Lee is sliding out of the 1st round, but everyone seems to know that this dude may very well be the top offensive weapon available in this draft. Underrated speed that can blow the top off the defense, ballerina like acrobatic catches, and the ability to take a punt all the way to the house, is what Lee did at USC. But there are injury concerns and the "first round bust" sticker has been placed on his back. With that said, at pick #25 he could be our answer to KR/PR, and would fit into the slot role just fine when Eddie Royal gets injured in week 1,4 or 5.
