With a two TD, 182 total yard from scrimmage effort against the #1 rated rushing defense in the league, Bolt rookie running back Branden Oliver won recognition as "Rookie of the Week". Oliver beat out rookie WR's Sammy Watkins and Odell Beckham, Jr. and two defensive players, the Rams K'Wuan Williams and the Browns E. J. Gaines.
Oliver, undrafted out of the University of Buffalo, began the season buried deep in the depth chart. Injuries to Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead, and Donald Brown put the workload on his diminutive shoulders for the Jets game. Not only did Oliver get the Rookie of the Week award, his performance was the best for a Charger running back since LT in 2007.
The Chargers will be putting a heavy workload on Oliver again this week against division rival Oakland. Another performance like last week's may have a lot of league GM's looking at their 7th round picks and wondering what might have been.
