Seyi Ajirotutu was spotted at Chargers Park today competing in the team workouts and taking his physical. He was signed Friday afternoon.
Many of you maybe on your computer right now completely disregarding the importance of this acquisition. This may sound crazy but this signing is the best decision the Chargers have made this whole free agency period. Let me explain.
Remember the days when the Chargers had Vincent Jackson, Darren Sproles, and LT? Well if you think about why that duo was so successful, there is only one thing in common between them (other than raw talent of course). They all had a connection with Phillip Rivers. They were all in San Diego for a good amount of seasons and that allowed Phillip Rivers to be familiar with their styles including speed, route running, and agility.
Right now at this second, the only wide receiver that isn't completely new to Phillip Rivers is Malcolm Floyd. Vincent Brown and Eddie Royal dont count because their injuries are always keeping them off the field. Rivers doesn't really know any of his WR's styles which in turn results in him not trusting them. So what does Seyi Ajirotutu have to do with this discussion. Well, its simple. Phillip Rivers knows him. Ajirotutu was part of that successful WR crew in 2010. He has experience with him and trusts him as well. Combine this with the price that this all comes at, and Seyi Ajirotutu is exactly what we needed.
Who do you guys think is the Chargers best free agent acquisition this year so far?
