The San Diego Chargers have signed their first free agent, and this one has a familiar face.
Free agency has begun and the San Diego Chargers wasted no time making their agreement with Kicker Nick Novak official, signing him to a four-year deal. Novak has been with the team as a replacement for Nate Kaeding in each of the last two seasons.
The team also signed long-snapper Mike Windt to a four-year deal over the weekend, cementing this pair as major parts of the Special Teams unit for years to come.
Novak got a quote into the press release, and it includes a glowing review of the Chargers' new Special Teams Coach. Check it out:
"I want to thank the Spanos family, Mr. Telesco, Coach McCoy and the entire Chargers organization for re-signing me for four more years," said Novak. "I look forward to working with (Special Teams) Coach (Kevin) Spencer. He's spent 30-plus years in the game and has a wealth of knowledge. He's very good at what he does so I'm excited to work with him on a daily basis."
