The draft is still two months away and these mock drafts aren't exciting me saying Lane Johnson so consistently like they already know who we're picking in February. Don't get me wrong if he keeps Rivers clean it's a great pick I'm just naturally not excited about a linemen in the first round even though it looks like we have to at the moment. But what if we don't? What if Telesco signs our franchise LT in two weeks? It would give his first draft 100% more flexibility. Last thing he wants to do is have to panic about Johnson still being there at 11 because he didn't sign anyone in Free Agency. It's the most important position to our team next year I don't think Telesco in his first year will leave that position to chance by hoping the first 3 LT's don't go in the top 10, when the top 2 could be gone by the 5th pick. He also mentioned taking the BPA approach to the draft even though we have glaring needs we have multiple needs. Tom probably realizes this draft will be less predictable than past drafts and only a couple of players have been labeled as unreachable to us, we could end up with a top 5 talent if someone like Demontre Moore fell to us. Or we had the luxury of trading back if that player we were looking for isn't there and use our extra picks on guards and cornerbacks. I'm not saying Lane isn't a great player but it's an idiotic approach to assume he'll be there at 11, we can't afford to trade up for him so I just don't see it happening like most people do. Risking a huge hole at LT like that is a crazy old AJ Smith tactic that Tom isn't going to try his first year on the job with the single biggest priority of the offseason.
