San Diego Chargers OLB Melvin Ingram activated from PUP list

USA TODAY Sports

Melvin Ingram is back, activated from PUP list and ready to play Sunday against the New York Giants.

The San Diego Chargers have announced that Outside Linebacker Melvin Ingram has been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, releasing linebacker Adrian Robinson to make room for Ingram on the roster.

Not only has he been reactivated, but the team also has said Ingram will play tomorrow against the New York Giants.

Last year's first–round draft pick — selected #18 overall — tore his ACL in May (7 months ago) and was promptly placed on the Reserve-PUP list, designated to return. The pass rush — or lack thereof — has missed Ingram dearly this year and his return should greatly help the front seven get pressure on opposing quarterbacks. His return should also help the weak secondary spend less time in coverage.

Pro Football Focus had Ingram rated as their 4th most–effective pass–rusher on the team last season behind Corey Liuget, Cam Thomas and Antonio Garay. A solid run defender as well, his presence will be highly important if the Chargers want to have any chance of a playoff berth this year.
