Chargers at Jaguars Injury Report: Jacksonville's Depleted Offense

Scott Kane-USA TODAY Sports

The Chargers are finally (almost) healthy along the Offensive Line. Now, the defense has caught the injury bug. For the Jaguars, key injuries on the offense may make things difficult on Sunday.

San Diego Chargers Injury Report

Steve Schilling G-T Neck - - LP Questionable
Shareece Wright CB Hamstring FP FP FP Probable

Well, for once the Offensive Line for the Chargers isn't completely banged up. In fact, all starters along the OL not named Chad Rinehart are either listed as Probable or not listed at all, so we can expect them to play on Sunday. Expect Johnny Troutman starting in place of Chad Rinehart. Schilling(?!?!) being injured is a concern for depth, but he wouldn't be starting anyway.

Continuing with injuries on the offense, Ronnie Brown injured his ankle but was a full participant in practice the last two days, he'll play. Eddie Royal was seen in a boot at practice, I find it difficult to imagine he'll play on Sunday; toe injuries are notoriously bad for receivers.

Donald Butler still isn't practing since injuring his groin in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles. At this point, the coaches may just be sitting him until after the Bye week to ensure his groin is completely healed.

Seeing 3 of the team's 5 Cornerbacks listed on the injury report is certainly disconcerting, especially with how thin the team is with talent at the position. The good news though is that all CBs were full participants all week and are probable for Sunday's game. Jarret Johnson is listed as Questionable, which literally means he has a 50/50 shot at playing, but indications are that he'll see a few snaps against Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Jaguars Injury Report

Player Pos. Injury Wed. Thu. Fri. Game Status
Russell Allen LB Ribs LP LP FP Probable
Justin Blackmon WR Hamstring DNP LP DNP Questionable
Andre Branch DE Knee LP FP FP Probable
Stephen Burton WR Concussion DNP DNP DNP Out
Johnathan Cyprien S Calf DNP DNP LP Questionable
Blaine Gabbert QB Hamstring LP LP LP Out
Dwayne Gratz CB Ankle LP LP DNP Questionable
Marcedes Lewis TE Calf LP LP LP Probable
Roy Miller DT Shoulder DNP LP LP Probable
Jeremy Mincey DL Concussion DNP DNP DNP Out
Ace Sanders WR/PR Concussion DNP DNP DNP Out
Cecil Shorts III WR Shoulder DNP LP LP Questionable
Jordan Todman RB Thigh LP FP FP Probable

THe biggest name on this list is obviously Blaine Gabbert. He's already listed as out for Sunday, and Chad Henne will start in his place. Chad Henne has less than a stellar record against the Chargers. He came in to replace the injured Chad Pennington in 2009 with the Dolphins; he didn't do so well in that game. Then in their next meeting, the Chargers knocked Henne out of the game early on.

Losing Justin Blackmon would certainly be a blow to an already weak Offense. In fact, the top 2 receivers on the Jaguars depth chart are listed as Questionable. The Jaguars have lost all 6 games by double digits, so points come at a premium to a team that has rarely looked competetive. And a depleted receiving corps, and without their starting Quarterback, things certainly seem to set up that the Jacksonville offense will struggle. But then again, have you seen the Chargers defense play?

On the defensive side of the ball, their starting Strong Safety — Jonathan Cyprien — is questionable and only practiced once this week. Same story for Dwayne Gratz, a starting Cornerback.

Here's hoping the Chargers come back home and head into the bye with a winning record, and both teams come out of this game without any more injuries.
