2014 NFL Draft Needs and Top players Chargers should target Pre-Week 7 Edition

The Chargers were able to beat the Colts and gain momentum for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Now, that win also switches up the draft pick the Chargers will have. I am predicting right now, pick 20. They will enter the playoffs.

Top Needs:

DT- Cam Thomas is a good player, but not a player you would like to have for more than 5 years.

WR- Although Keenan Allen and Vincent Brown make a very exciting WR corp, I think the Chargers should target a "franchise" WR. The Chargers could move up to get a guy like Watkins with the 12th pick, just like they moved up to get Mathews. Let's just hope Watkins lives up to his draft pick.

LT- Although many say the O-Line has been great, which it has, King Dunlap is not the "franchise" LT. The Chargers need a player like Cyrus Koundjio or Antonio Richardson, shutdown tackles to protect Philip Rivers. Still, a Cameron Erving from FSU would not be bad either.

OLB- Like the old saying goes, you build a team from the inside out. If the Chargers are able to get a pass rusher who is an immediate threat when he steps on the field, the QB won't have enough time to throw and thus eliminates some of the burden the secondary is having right now.

CB- The Chargers should get a CB, but NOT in the first round. We are not trying to draft a true "shutdown" corner right now. This is the weakest class in the last several years and any CB you pick in the first round, is taking a huge gamble. I still think the Chargers will probably sign a FA CB and draft pass rush.

Now, that I have summarized what the team's needs are, I think we can begin with our mock draft.

1st round-

The Pick: The Chargers draft CJ Mosley with 20th pick. I think Mosley will slide down due to the needs of the other teams. I was very tempted to put Khalil Mack, but his lack of experience against big times might hurt his stock a little (5-10 picks). The Chargers get a true threat off the edge with Mosley.

** If the Chargers were not to select Mosley here are the other options

1. Kyle Van Noy

2. Khalil Mack

3. Antonio Richardson.

2nd round pick- The Chargers need to protect Philip Rivers, NOW! The Chargers will trade their 4th round pick to move up the draft board. The Chargers will then select Cyrus Koundjio. They get an instant upgrade in the LT position and a player for the next 10 years. With all the criticism surrounding him, he might just fall to the 2nd round, but if he doesn't then the Chargers could select one of the players below.

** Other options

1. Lucheiz Purifoy

2. Ryan Shazier

3. Christian Jones

4. Cameron Erving

3rd round- The Chargers will get a true DT... How? Well, Dominique Easley went down with an injury and my gut tells me that he will not do well in the combine. TT and company take another shot at a player who underperforms in the draft in hit a HR like they did with Keenan Allen. The Chargers select Dominique Easley DT, Florida.

Rounds 1-3 Picks

1. CJ Mosley

2. Cyrus Koundjio

3. Dominique Easley

FA Predictions

1. The Chargers will sign a CB, these are my top 3 (in no particular order) which I think the Chargers will sign. The player will be decided on how much money he asks for.

1. Corey Webster

2. Nnamdi Asomugha

3. Sam Shields

2. They also sign G Jon Asamoah, this is not for sure, but I think TT puts and end to the Jeromy Clary era and brings Jon Asamoah from the Chiefs to replace him.

Other options:

1. Jared Veldheer

2. Eugene Monroe

3. Branden Albert

3. The Chargers sign a WR or a RB

*Ben Tate or Eric Decker. One of those 2
