Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
Heading into Week 4, the San Diego Chargers are coming off a brutal beating at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. Does the team's performance change your opinion of the job Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith is doing?
Well, that was a fun game, wasn't it? There's a lot of blame to go around in why the Chargers crapped the bed this week, but just how much of that blame should be directed towards General Manager A.J. Smith?
This team is no different than the same team that took care of the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans the previous two weeks. This week, the Raiders knocked off the Pittsburgh Steelers; and after the Chargers defense held the Tennessee Titans to just 10 points, those same Titans turned around and scored 44 points against the Detroit Lions. So it's not like the teams the Chargers played previously were incapable of winning.
This week, A.J. didn't make any big moves, just a couple players were shuffled on and off the Practice Squad. So we can't really judge him for any player moves. So the biggest question we have to go on would be: did A.J. Smith field a competitive team against the Atlanta Falcons? Were the issues this week due to the players A.J. Smith picked up this offseason, or did A.J. do his job correctly and the entire team had one collective bad day?
