One play. That's all it took for Ryan Mathews to again become one of the walking wounded. The diagnosis is a broken clavicle that the team is saying will cause the young running back to miss 4-6 weeks. That's 1-3 regular season games, which in the grand scheme of things is not a lot of time to miss, but it's another injury to a player that looks so promising when healthy.
The quotes from Norv Turner's post game press conference sounded upbeat as he tried to play it off that the team brought in Ronnie Brown and Le'Ron McClain for this very reason. You'd expect him to be that way, so it's no knock against him, but it's just funny to hear how he spins it. Again, it's not so much the time that Mathews will miss from this injury, but the recurring trend of injuries that stretch back into high school that bothers people.
The injury does require surgery and Mathews will have that done tomorrow. David Chao is the team doctor and does perform surgeries, but no word on whether he'll be the one performing it.
