In a surprise to absolutely nobody, Mike Willie ran away with this one with 73% of respondents favoring the former Sun Devil. As a rule, fans of the San Diego Chargers (and perhaps all football fans, but I'm not sure) absolutely love undrafted rookie free agents. I'm not entirely certain why this is. Perhaps it's the complete lack of expectations that makes them seem better than they are, or maybe we just want to root for the underdog (that might also explain the Charger fandom, actually).
Aside from his status as an undrafted rookie, Willie also benefited from staying healthy this preseason and thus was able to look good against other teams' scrubs while Richard Goodman nursed injuries on the sideline. The fact that Chargers fans have already spent a season enjoying Goodman's shortcomings as exposed by playing against legitimate starting caliber NFL players over the course of a real season probably didn't help his case.
All of that experience probably should have helped his case, but the unknown of Mike Willie was apparently more attractive than the known quantity that is Richard Goodman.
