I decided to analyze each position. I will start with the most important part of the whole team: the quarterback.
QB1) Philip Rivers - No way this guy gets beat out. I believe this guy will be in the hall of fame at some point. He just has to keep playing at the level he played at before last year. This is the guy with the 2nd highest career passer rating ever. Top 5 in yards per pass attempt for his career, and top 5 for TD/INT rate in his career. This guy has 4 more years on his contract. I see another 5-6 year contract after that, and after that, hopefully a few more years. This guy is talented, and I'm hoping will be a Charger for his whole career.
QB2) Charlie Whitehurst - He is not starter quality. He is good with the Charger's playbook. He can fit in, in a pinch, but with Rivers at the helm, he won't need to see action. I think soon, we should pick up someone in a draft with a late pick, and mold him into a reliable backup under one of the greats - Philip Rivers. But for now, clipboard jesus will do.
QB3) Jarrett Lee - This guy was ok in college. There's pretty much no way he will be any better at the pro level. His best chance at life in the NFL is on a practice squad. Thats if, and only IF he plays well during the preseason. I think Scott Tolzien was a way better prospect last year, and he did not make the team. I think he'll be an early cut during the preseason.
