San Diego Chargers linebackers coach Joe Barry at organized team activities at Chargers Park.
Remember this guy? The former star high school LB that had his career derailed and spent 5 years in prison due to a fraudulent rape charge? The guy that said that it was his dream to play for the San Diego Chargers and was begging for a tryout with the team before being told that there was no interest? Well, there's interest now mostly because Pete Carroll is cool.
Carroll, who loves a wacky story involving USC (where Banks was supposed to play his college ball), was the first to grant Banks a tryout. After he showed the Seattle Seahawks what he could do on the field, Banks was invited back to Seattle's mini camp next week on a tryout basis. In a nutshell, that means that he did a lot of things right and the Chargers were paying attention.
Immediately after his tryout with the Seahawks, the Chargers invited Brian Banks to come by Chargers Park today to workout for the team. Banks has also been offered tryouts by the Washington Redskins and Kansas City Chiefs. Based on his past expression of love for the Bolts, you have to think that San Diego would have the inside edge on landing Banks if they're as impressed by his workout as Seattle was.
Here's Part 1 of Brian Banks' recent appearance on The Tonight Show.
UPDATE:
Norv Turner says tryout with Brian Banks went well. Showed "outstanding athleticism." Could see why he was a top HS prospect.
