So John's out of town today and I pulled the short straw (read: volunteered) and get to write this evening's After Dark. When I drew this assignment I just assumed I'd think of something to write about and that doesn't seem to have happened. Fun fact: the "right" combination of lemonade, iced tea and spiced rum tastes oddly similar to a Long Island Iced Tea.

Oh, so anyway, this is as good a place as any to say, I hope the Padres trade Carlos Quentin this month instead of doing something stupid like giving a big contract to a guy that can't stay healthy. You know who can afford to do that kind of thing? Teams like the Yankees who can paper over mistakes. The Padres can't have 25% of their payroll being spent on a guy that plays 120 games in a good year. Here's hoping they also get a bag of balls or something for Huston Street. The only baseball-related reason to have considered signing him was in the hopes of flipping him at the deadline, so hey, let's get on that.

Do I want to trade everyone? Kind of, but not really. I hope they don't do something stupid like trade Chase Headley for less than a king's ransom. Headley is by far the best player on the team. He's on pace to have a better season than any year Adrian Gonzalez had with the Padres. Oh and he's under team control for two more years. Trading him away and not getting a ridiculous return is a sign that Padres fans should just give up hope of ever seeing a competitive team again because the front office is incompetent. I don't think that'll happen, though, so yeah.

Anyway, talk about stuff. The Supreme Court and Congress both made news today. Feel free to discuss it here so long as you avoid pissing off the staff.
