The day I became a fan of the San Diego Chargers

SInce John threw an off-hand blast our way last night in his After-Dark segment, I thought I would take the challenge and actually write one of these Fan Posts. Here goes nothing.....

It was a Monday night game in December. December 15, 1975 to be exact. The Chargers were a putrid 1-11 playing the slightly less putrid New York Jets who were 3-9 at the time. Dan Fouts was in his third year as a Charger and if this game was much of an indicator of things to come, no one would have ever predicted "Air Coryell". Tommy Prothro actually pulled him for a guy names Jesse Freitas after Dan threw for all of 86 yards.

The Chargers ended up winning the game 24-16 and from that point on, I was hooked. Beginning with the terrible teams coached by Prothro (but getting a whole lot of talent in the draft), though the good-ol' Air Coryell days, then back to the putrid Babe Laufenberg led years. To Bobby Ross and the Super Bowl and back to Whelihan. It has been a roller coaster ride but I love this team.

Why? Got me....must have been the lightning bolts. 8-year olds love lightning.
