"In our case, we knew that we would be paying incentives that were earned during the season and had not been counting against the Cap ("Not Likely to Be Earned" incentives) in excess of the amount of Cap Room that we had remaining. So, we won’t have any room at the end of the League Year. And we’ll also have an additional amount deducted from next year’s Cap because our incentive adjustment will be more than the Cap space that we had remaining at the end of the season." -Ed McGuire

This was already included in the daily link dump, but I thought it was worth emphasizing. Paying out contract incentives caused the team to hit the 2011 cap and even exceed it. The team can not simply 'open up the wallet' and 'stop being cheap'.

Thanks!

I can’t stand comments like “Spanos needs to pay up” or “The Chargers have to stop being cheap”… The Chargers are not the Padres. They have made personnel mistakes and gambles that have not worked out. However, overall I am happy the fact the team has been considered a contender in the past several years. I am not a huge AJ fan but I agree when he says that your goal is to get in “the tournament”. To win a SB you need a little luck and not always the “best” team wins it.
Let’s hope they re-sign VJ, pick a couple of FA and have a strong draft and the team will be fine in the next few years.

RABBLE

A pirate I was meant to be!
"You say you're nasty pirates,
scheming, thieving, bad bushwackers?
From what I've seen I tell you
You're not pirates, you're just slackers!"

Incentives?

With that season….who the f won “incentives” ?

Are you a mexi-can or a mexi-can't?

A completely uninformed guess:

I’m guessing all the pro bowlers had incentives. Mathews was definitely an unexpected pro bowler.
Butler, LaBoy, Barnes, Floyd, could all have had playing time incentives.

Now you’ve got me curious, time to tweet @sdutchargers…
