The Chargers' defense was good enough to earn the win against a very poor New York Jets team.
Despite the fact that the San Diego Chargers won against the Jets in New York, there's nothing but bad news for Chargers fans after this game.
To start, the Chargers didn't look much better than the Jets, who looked like they would've lost to the Chiefs or Titans or any other NFL team. The Chargers didn't win because they played well, they won because they didn't play terrible.
Second, Brandon Taylor (getting his first career start at Strong Safety) left the game with a torn ACL and might not be ready for the start of the 2013 NFL season.
Actually, I take that back. The good news is that the defensive line is dominating with Kendall Reyes and Corey Liuget playing the DE spots. The Chargers had 11 sacks of Greg McElroy today, mostly behind the dominating Defensive Ends (3.5 sacks for Reyes, 2 sacks for Liuget). The bad news is that it took a late-season injury for the coaching staff to bench Vaughn Martin.
With the Oakland Raiders losing (convincingly) to the Carolina Panthers today, the Chargers are well on their way to finishing the season with a 7-9 season and ending up with another draft pick in the teens (which, some have argued, is the biggest reason the Chargers are where they are right now talent-wise).
