Refs add insult to Gaither’s injury - Nick Canepa (UT$)
Once again, the Chargers didn’t win in New Orleans and didn’t deserve to — they allowed the Saints to slip away — but don’t say the replacement refs could have done worse at the end than the real zebras. Without blown calls, San Diego at least would have had a chance to tie the game in regulation.

Stat Snip: Week 5 Broncos-Patriots - Topher Doll
Few games are going to be as important for the Denver Broncos as this next game against the Chargers, for a number reasons. The first is the obvious statistical reason, teams that start 2-4 usually don't end up doing well, and while 3-3 teams don't do amazingly well either, the difference is noticeably big.

Wright Returns While Mathews Sits - Ricky Henne
The good news for the Bolts was the return of Wright, who had a dominant training camp and preseason before injuring his ankle. Still, Turner is tempering his optimism, taking a day-by-day approach with the second-year cornerback.

Royal's Only Focus Against Former Team: A Win - Ricky Henne
"It’s just another football game," he said. "For me, it’s just about going out and playing in another game. There’s nothing more than that. I’m motivated every week, so this week makes no difference. It’s about winning the next game, and Denver happens to be the next game."

Key trio misses practice time - Scott Bair
Ryan Mathews, Jeromey Clary and Jared Gaither didn't practice on Wednesday. That's a solid chunk of the Chargers starting lineup. It's also, according to coach Norv Turner, no cause for concern. "I'm confident that they'll be able to play," Turner said. "We will give an official injury update (today)."

32 Observations: Week 5 - Nathan Jahnke
Philip Rivers has thrown 37 passes to receivers who were behind the line of scrimmage, which is the most in the league.

Manning has struggled against Chargers - Bill Williamson
Manning has thrown six touchdown passes in his past two games with Denver and he hasn’t thrown an interception in the past 15 quarters. Let’s see if Manning can keep up his hot streak or if he continues to struggle against San Diego.
