Wild Card Saturday Open Thread

Did anyone expect that this guy would be starting the Houston Texans' first ever playoff game? (Photo by Bob Levey/Getty Images)

So it looks like I'm the only person capable of starting the first Wild Card Open Thread. Woo hoo! Should be fun for Houston fans, as they get to watch the first playoff game in franchise history. If there's anyone in the AFC playoffs I'll root for, it's probably them as they're the least offensive of the bunch. Plus my wife's cousin is a Texans fan, and this one means a lot to him.

Then there's the evening game which everyone expects to have a 117-114 final score, which probably means it will be 6-3 with 25 punts and 11 turnovers. I don't really care for either of those teams or their players, so I don't care who wins. I know some of our users feel differently (coughwonkocough) and that's cool. It will probably be fun to watch. Have fun everyone!

yay playoffs!

I like both of these teams — Texans a little more than Bengals. Too bad the two underdogs are playing one another. Cool for Yates to be in a playoff game but he is in over his head. I cannot wait for Tebow time, I’ll have so many mixed emotions watching that game.

We DID!

He was picked like number 27 or something like that. We opted to take Luiget instead at 18.

JJ Watt was taken 11th

The only DE/OLB that they passed on was Wilkerson and Jordan

And Cam Jordan put up some truly unspectacular numbers playing for New Orleans.

I made it

The depth of my loyalty to football: I drove 5 hours, climbed a mountain, and drove 5 hours back. I’ve been up since two. Now football.

Also, good for the Texans.

Man...seeing the Lions v. Saints game

I wish we’d stuck with a rushing attack some…which I guess is equal to saying I wish our D wasn’t non-existent that game. Welp, looking forward to next year!

That Sproles TD

looked exactly like the one against the Colts in the ’08 Wild Card game.

The players are great and I wouldnt trade anyone we have

But the coaching is fantastic he’s lets them go out and do what they do

Rec'd

Don’t know if either player would continue to have the success they are having in NOLA had they stayed with San Diego. Don’t get me wrong, I still think that Norv is a pretty good play-caller but sometimes I think he gets “stove-piped” in his play calling. But the difference could be the actual play, execution and freedom that Brees is allowed to play with. It could be that Brees just up’d the level of his game once he was let go by the Chargers.

sproles put up excellent receiving numbers with us

he was overpaid though. also, in NO he has the benefit of being on an offense that is better than ours — opening things up even more underneath for him as a runner or a receiver. Their run blocking is better than us too.

I won’t even discuss Brees because at the time letting him go made sense.

agreed

So frustrating to watch well-coached teams with personnel similar to ours dominate.

we are also most likely

not going to resign garay and tolbert, but resign hester instead

by chargerclipperfan on Jan 8, 2012 3:06 PM PST up reply actions

Maybe

Castillo comes back at a cheaper rate… he’s too talented to give up on but too injury prone for that price tag. Then again, someone may possibly give him big money so it’s too early to tell.

injury prone?

hardly. He’s missed 3 games the last 3 years. This year he was unfortunate to have Weddle crash straight into his tibia and break it…

Hester will come a lot cheaper than either of those other two.

i thought his injury

was why our defense sucked. or so i have read.

by jayman66 on Jan 8, 2012 5:13 PM PST up reply actions

It was a big part of it. Partially because they lacked depth with all the money they had tied up in a guy who wasn't playing.

I come home and the first play is see is the donkeys scoring the game winning touchdown.

by Michaelt817 on Jan 8, 2012 5:12 PM PST reply actions

i missed the first half

they looked OK but the Steelers much better in the 2nd half; that was one bad play, and, poof, TD.

than I should be that the broncos won lol

It's ok...

They’ll run into Brady and Belichick next week… again. Nothing like the Patriots to cure Tebowmania, Tebowitis, and the Common Tebow.

I'm actually happy they won.

I’m so tired of seeing the Steelers in the Super Bowl year after year.

by Kame on Jan 8, 2012 7:12 PM PST up reply actions

No matter how you slice it Tebow had a very impressive game

Which is infuriating b/c he has already received so many accolades by basically sucking and riding on a strong defense. Imagine what people will say now that he had a good game against a mostly great defense (the injuries made a huge difference, but you would think Pitt backups could still handle Tebow).

I find this disconcerting b/c IF Tebow continues to improve in the passing game….dude is scary.

by chaplinesque on Jan 8, 2012 8:55 PM PST reply actions

Impressive, but it's hard to imagine it's repeatable.

Pitt overplayed the run

I know this is easy to say after the fact, but you really gotta take away the deep ball. Especially after the 1st long completion. Allowing a few runs here and there is not as bad as allowing the bombs.
