Serious Business: 9/6 San Diego Chargers Links

Diggs hopes move inside is seamless - Scott Bair
"I've always considered myself a quick learner," Diggs said after Monday's practice. "I'm not a doctor or a PhD, but picking up football schemes has always come easy to me. I guess that's my talent. I've always been able to pick things up quickly and execute at a high level. I've done it before, and I'll do it again here."

D-line moving on after Nwagbuo's cut - Scott Bair
The core is a strong one, with veterans Luis Castillo, Antonio Garay and Cesaire, improving youngsters Vaughn Martin and Cam Thomas and an emerging star in Corey Liuget. They have rallied together during training camp and bring unique talents to a group that must play together to play well.

One player to watch: Week 1 - Bill Williamson
Ryan Mathews, running back: The Chargers are looking for dividends from the No. 12 overall pick in the 2010 draft. Mathews has looked good in the preseason. He will share carries with Mike Tolbert, but San Diego would like Mathews to set the tone, starting Sunday against the visiting Minnesota Vikings. If Mathews can have a big first game, that will give the coaching staff a bunch of confidence in him moving forward.

Ranking AFC West backup QBs - Bill Williamson
1. Billy Volek, San Diego: The Chargers have the best quarterback in the division in Philip Rivers and they have the best backup as well. It is not even close. Volek has shown he can help the Chargers win the past (the 2007 playoffs) and the team is confident in him if Rivers goes down.

Chargers reach practice squad limit - Christopher Smith
The Chargers reached the eight-man practice squad maximum Monday. San Diego signed tackle Eric Young and quarterback Drew Willy.

Chargers' plan is for fully healthy Sanders to be a hit - Kevin Acee
But the No.1 priority – if there can ever be such a thing truly defined for a football team – is to keep Bob Sanders healthy. "No offense," said one member of the Chargers front office, "but I don’t think that makes you a genius to have figured that out."

Panthers make more roster moves - Bryan Strickland
The Panthers also added former San Diego Chargers wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu while releasing receiver David Clowney.

49ers claim QB Tolzien off waivers - Cam Inman
Scott Tolzien’s last pass of the exhibition season was for a touchdown Thursday against the 49ers. His next pass apparently will be for the 49ers. Multiple outlets are reporting the 49ers have claimed Tolzien, an undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin who was released Saturday by the San Diego Chargers.
