Interesting

To me, it would look like we’re going to have a very young roster of special teams players again. Last year, that was deemed a major reason for their collapse. I hope this year it does not come back to haunt us.

Coverage looks good but

I don’t know about punt protection

I trust Bisaccia knows what he's doing

last year I think it was more a case of Crosby’s voice not having much weight to it at cut time. This time there are lots of ST guys (Gachkar, Wallace, etc.). Very different.

Me too

I’m guessing they hope OG won’t find a job elsewhere.

Don’t know if I’m surprised that he hasn’t been picked up. He didn’t do a whole lot here.

Too many linebackers is right

I could have lived with Gachkar and Gamble leaving, but I guess the Chargers brass must think they need them on special teams.

Goodman brings a lot more value on Special Teams.

I like it.

1st year having an iPhone, so it was alot easier following everything on twitter and the blogs. Tutu showed out last year, made the team, and B. Walters shined this year. We will see how it goes.

Now that the teams are down to 53, let’s see who we have once the dust settles and we kick off on 9/11. I’ll be there.

Also, I wonder how long till madden 12 gets the rosters updated.

Going to take a fresh stab at inactives:

Todman
Dombro
Brown
Gachkar
Gamble
One other LB?
Wright or Hughes
Stuckey or Wallace

by Orz on Sep 3, 2011 3:38 PM PDT reply actions

I doubt Dombro is inactive

Since he is backup for McNeill & Clary, I think all 8 OLineman will be active

by TJBOLT on Sep 3, 2011 4:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Negative thats a waste of a STs spot

Hughes over Wright for nickel
And Wallace over Stuckey for STs

Winning

by Foilhat on Sep 3, 2011 8:02 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know about that

Gilchrist is probably the nickel. Hughes is a 4th CB. I do think you’re right that Hughes gets the active spot over Wright. I expect Stuckey to be active so he can step in on defense. Wallace isn’t really capable of stepping in to spell a starter.

by aesimpleton on Sep 3, 2011 8:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Hughes has played with the ones in nickel thus far

If that changes then yes his active spot could be in contention. As far as Stuckey goes I highly doubt he’s active over Wallace for many reasons. Including him transitioning to playing free which Gregory can play, plus Wallace is better covering kicks from what I have seen so far

Stephen Cooper better be inactive

Hate that he made the team and really hope he doesn’t see the field much, but suppose he can coach up the young ILB from the sideline. The surprise Ajirotutu cut, as with the rest of WR cuts, shows that while guys like Robinson etc are solid, they are unnecessary depth at this bottom talented roster. Whereas Walters presents more of a project, and could actually see game time due to bringing something a little more unique to the table.

Cooper -

Love him for what he did for us in the past, but no way he should be on this roster! Torn bicep dude. How can he help us more than Summers or Tolzien (can he clear waivers?) or Tutu, or OG? Let him help the young LB as a coach or consultant – don’t take away a roster spot for a guy who is running around with one useful arm! Summers is a beast and Tolzien looked like a guy who could be a 2nd QB in the near future. Sorry to say, but Coop’s time is done. I don’t get it.

by aesimpleton on Sep 3, 2011 8:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Strange that they would IR him AFTER making the final roster

Isn’t his entire salary guaranteed then? Seems like they would cut him or IR him prior to week one if that was the plan all along.

by HuangDi on Sep 3, 2011 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions

His entire salary is going to be paid no matter when he was cut

He is a vested vet, and was signed for the minimum; and he’s never had a terminated contract. I do not think the club could IR him prior to the 53 deadline, because he’s not signed for 2012

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/31/refresher-on-the-vested-veteran-guarantee/

I appears that the exception applies only after week one, but the fact he’s not signed in 2012 could explain him not being be able to IR him prior to week one without releasing him first; which would require the injury settlement. I dunno the Cooper thing makes zero cents to me, the guy cannot play anyone with or without him jacked up arm

agree about Tolzein

Wish they would have left a spot open for tolzein. Kid looked good in the last game. Had a pretty spiral, and threw it on a tight line. Also, didn’t seem to get rattled and start running for his life when the pressure got to him. Hope noone else picks him up.

There is a way in which Frank Summers could have helped us? He couldn’t even help in any of our 4 preseason games.

How is Coop going to help?

Summers can block and tackle on ST – I can’t see Coop doing that with one arm!
I do think Cooper will be replace by another player in the next week.

Move value on ST than OG

And more value as a backup safety, where we only had 4 guys (though Gilchrist could play there if needed).

SEYI IT AIN"T SO!

What is it with SD fans falling in love with white WR? Ever since we cut Welker and then saw him go on to be a pro bowler we’ve been swooning over any small, scrappy white dude that reports to Chargers camp. Anyone remember Charly Martin? Everyone was upset when he didn’t make the team, and now where is he? 1 pass for 6 yards in 2 years. We should have kept TUTU! Atleast he fits our scheme in case we lose VJ or M80. I guess Walters is our Crayton replacement.

by peejo on Sep 4, 2011 8:52 AM PDT reply actions

Goodman too!

I think we have plenty of KR potential with Gilchrist, Cason and Todman. We know TUTU can contribute on Offense. I’m not so sure Goodman can. It seems so silly that we keep two guys whose biggest flashes have come on KR.
