Na'il Diggs Signed By San Diego Chargers To Add ILB Depth
The Chargers are still concerned about their depth at the inside linebacker position. Their next attempt to address this problem is the signing of 11-year veteran Na'il Diggs. Diggs played for St. Louis last year, but had extended stays in both Green Bay and Carolina before that. His experience has been as an outside linebacker in a 4-3 defense and he's started in over 130 games there. However, he's not a big passrusher (11.5 sacks in 11 seasons) so his skills translate better to the 3-4 ILB position.
It's an interesting signing to be sure. What does this say about the health of Stephen Cooper and Jonas Mouton? Will Cooper still make the team or reach an injury settlement? Does it mean some of the special teams specialists who are listed as ILBs (Bront Bird and Andrew Gachkar) will get cut? We'll just have to wait and see.

Diggs was a pretty solid 43 OLB.
It’ll be interesting to see how he fits in here.

I submit that they cannot.

Cooper
Here’s my take on the Coop situation. Cooper has never had a severed contract and he is a vest vet (five or more years accured, I think). What this means is he is entitled to getting paid his whole 2011 salary if he chooses to use this one time exception (assuming he’s gonna get cut). This would be true if he was cut regardless if he was injured or not. All this pretty much means that there will be no injury settlement for less than he was due for the 2011 season, meaning the team could simply decide to place him on IR can keep him as a quasi intern coach in the film room and on the field, for the same cost. Just my two cents

pronounciation?
"I promise you, we’re going to build a dictating, dominating, attacking defense. I’ve said it a million times. It’s not a slight on our offense, but we’re not going to win any world championship until we have that." - A.J. Smith
Manusky said, "Let's get Briggs."
But A.J. heard it as “Diggs,” so now we’re stuck.

Uhh
Why sign any player now before seeing who is cut at the deadline? I have to think you could find comparable, and younger talent this week.
