Luis Castillo Has Fractured Tibia

Luis Castillo has fractured tibia. Not good. Won't know for sure on his season status until tomorrow.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck Favorite Retweet Reply

This is bad news. Just in case you don't know or have forgotten what a tibia is, it is the shin bone. A lot of the times broken bones have easy recover time frames to predict, but I've been told (thanks @injuryexpert) that with the tibia it's too difficult to speculate on a time frame without knowing the extent of the break. So, as Acee says, we'll know more on his status tomorrow.

For now, Vaughn Martin becomes the starter and Jacques Cesaire will back up and rotate for both positions. If Castillo goes on IR or is expected to be out for a while, then we'll see the Chargers bring in a lineman. Ogemdi Nwagbuo could return. They could also get Travis Johnson, but that's less likely since he wasn't in camp with the Chargers or any other team for that matter. Igor Olshansky is still out there is well, but I still think that bridges were burned when he left.

Bad news

Castillo’s a huge loss. He eats so many blockers; makes the rest of the D better. Hopefully Martin is ready.

Kevin Acee wrote an injury update article

I tried to leave open the possibility that Castillo may not be that bad, but Acee was less optimistic. He’d know better than I would.

Some reason, the Castillo and Kaeding injuries don't scare me much.

Vaughn Martin is a beast, the DL will be fine. I want to see Scifres get a shot at kicking.

i think it comes down to

people see a run go up the right side, and wonder why he didn’t make the tackle himself. also, his low sack numbers=bust. a lot of people do not really understand football, and most of the analysis we see does not help us much either.

Bring in OG

Not as bad as it sounds

He was rusty from all the missed time. Still bad, but he hasn’t really played much, so he doesn’t have a ton of experience to make up for the lost time in preseason.

by aesimpleton on Sep 11, 2011 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions

He has a heck of a lot more experience than Gamble

Even if he didn’t play a lot in preseason, English has still two other seasons under his belt. If he truly was healthy, I don’t see a reason why he wasn’t active over Gamble except that the coaches think Gamble is better right now…which isn’t a great sign.

That was the only excuse I could find for the guy

And it wasn’t really very good. Unless he’s hurt, it’s pathetic.

I think it’s time for you to break down Chargers D, how r they different from last season? what do you think about next week match ups? how did Butler fare in his first game? IDK surprise us :)

Just so you could know,

Castillo actually got hurt on the false start play, and, FRACTURED TIBIA and all, still brought down Donovan McNabb with one mid-section clothesline while Eric Weddle (accidental of course) took out his leg rushing from the other side.

I have been actually asking for a defensive breakdown for a while now, but there isn’t much talk about it, it’s all about offensive breakdown, haven’t seen much love for the defense, I was thinking they’re waiting for the beginning of the season, but I haven’t seen anything yet, can’t help but wait.

If I’m a new member and he did a post on Castillo a year ago, I probably would’ve missed it. I don’t think I disrespected anybody around here, just asking for more defensive breakdown because I and I repeat I haven’t seen much about defensive breakdown, so if there’s anything that I missed due to me probably not being on here as much I should or for w/e reason, it would be nicer of you to direct me to the right place :). anyways in case if I disrespected anyone and I can’t see how, you guys do a great job keeping us updated, love your guys knowledge and opinions about football overall :)

if you click on SDBs name

you can read all his posts. as far as “asking for a defensive” break down. its still sunday of week one man, chill. no one has had time to sleep off the beer let alone write a break down of anything. on a side note use the reply button please, and refrain from putting me anywhere near the category of the guys that actually do the writing for this site.

What are the eligibility rules for NFL entry? Do you have to declare by a certain deadline?

Because no lie, Marcus Diaz from Mesa College is ready. He just graduated from Poway High last year, but during his senior season he was making 50 yarders pretty regularly. I saw him do 67— SIXTY FUCKING SEVEN— off a tee in practice, and held for a 58.

Unfortunately, he got the yips really bad against Scripps Ranch and went 0 for 4, which ended any recruitment of him, but remember the name. If/when he transfers to a four-year college, you’ll be hearing it often. Plus there are almost certainly rules against hiring ringers out of college, which I believe date back to the infancy of the league. But as long as there are no good options, might as well throw it out there…

The Padres are good, but make no mistake: we've gotta beef up the linwup.

EL Toro down!? one word, CRAP!!

Luis going down is not good for any reason. he takes a double team on almost every snap. however form what i’ve seen from Legit and Vaugh they will carry the load and become the chargers “Twin Towers”. i expect for Garay to get the double team. and leave the Twin Towers to make big plays along with Barnes.

get well El Toro…
