San Diego Chargers Sign Kelley Washington to One Year Deal
The San Diego Chargers aren't making the same mistake as they did last year going into the season without veteran, battle-tested Special Teams specialists. It was announced this afternoon that the front office has agreed to a deal that would return standout gunner and backup wide receiver, Kelley Washington, for the 2011-2012 NFL season. Washington was a key member of last year's Special Teams squad that was rebuilt on the fly mid-season and his presence is a reassuring one to Chargers fans who don't want to witness a repeat of the early season failure's of the 2010-2011 campaign.
Kelley Washington agrees to 1-year deal. He & Q. Teal will be spec. tms vets leading young guys as they try to build from the ashes of '10.

Hard to imagine Wasington being there in Septmber

He'll be a gunner through October
Then I can see one of the rookies being ready to take over. Don’t expect to see him get significant snaps on Offense.
If we can keep Burnett
it would be a nearly perfect Free Agency period.
Only other thing I would like is a #2 WR…maybe if the market dies down AJ can get a guy like WR James Jones on the cheap. I think he would be even cheaper than Floyd, and he’s younger but just as polished in his route running. That would allow Crayton to play in the slot where he is better, and the younger guys wouldn’t have to play right away. AJ can afford to be patient on this one since there are several serviceable options out there at WR.
I thought Jones already went somewhere?
Maybe not, but I thought I saw his name.

That takes the reason prisoner?"
Nope
apparently the vikings are interested in him along with Floyd, but thats the only place I’ve seen his name linked…other than Rodgers saying he wanted him back.
OK, cool
I saw some other guy with a couple Js in his name then.

Probably
Just signed with the Texans.
Looks even more plausible that the Jets will get Scrabble
6/10/2010 - Tra Thomas signs with the Chargers
8/21/2010 - Tra Thomas retires.
That was fast.
I think the Jets will get him
I’d be worried about facing them, but Rivers knows how to deal with Nnamdi.

Nope
Earlier in the day. I really thought it was Jones, but it may have just been one of those “so and so is inquiring about…” things. It was on ESPN’s Bottom Line scroller, and I was at work, and I was somewhat distracted at the time. So who knows.

KA is already tweeting that Coach Bisaccia
Is lighting a fire under the ST group:
New special teams coach Rich Bisaccia is lighting ’em up. Players already seen things are gonna be different.
This also makes me happy.

Good moves I think
Especially with a short preseason and the need to start with a bit of intensity and urgency

The short preseason
should work in our favor, since PR17 has been holding practices for months now

As well as Lang
Which will disappoint some very optimistic people. Strickland too, which is not a surprise and will disappoint nobody.

Sometimes UDFA's are undrafted for a reason.
It’s a great story for players that work out but for every guy like Antonio Gates, there are probably hundreds of guys like Richie Brockel. Who? Exactly.
Bummer about Lang. Won't miss Strickland.
Had high hopes for Tucker once….

I suspected that, but now we know they have to pick up a new ROLB.
We’ve got English (not healthy, not proven), Barnes (situational) and … and … and ….
