PrintLeading up to the draft, everyone wants my prediction of what A.J. Smith and the Chargers will do. As if I am A.J.'s secret conduit to the outside world, a joke that he sits at home and giggles about every time someone looks at my foolish writing and says "That guy doesn't know what he's talking about." Gosh, that'd be awesome.
Anyway, here is the same prediction I give every year (at least for the first round, after that only a handful of people care and they usually understand that predictions are pointless). Some team, probably more than one, picking ahead of the Chargers will make some sort of trade (sounds like the Patriots are trying to move up to get Cameron Jordan) or make some sort of unexpected pick (Tyson Jackson #3 overall comes to mind) and screw up any predictions anyone has made about the Bolts and their #18 pick.

Here's my prediction
AJ trades up in the first is if the Miami pick (15) comes around and only two (or one) of "the coveted three" are left. Of course by "the coveted three" I refer to Watt, Jordan, and Kerrigan. If only two of those guys are sitting there at 15, I think AJ makes a deal and gives up a third rounder to get the guy he wants. (The cost on the trade value chart is 150 points, so a mid-3rd rounder) My thought is that JAX and NE will most likely take the guys that we want before we get a chance to, so AJ moves up a few spots to guarantee his guy.
We all know AJ will deal for the player he wants, and frankly I’d be okay with giving up a 3rd rounder if that gets us Watt, Jordan, or Kerrigan instead of reaching on a guy like Ayers, Clayborn, or Wilkerson.
On the other hand, if all of “the coveted three” are there at 15, he’ll stay put. If none are there at 15, he’ll look to trade back and hopefully find a team that really wants a QB or OT. If we don’t find a tango partner, I guess we’ll be forced to reach on a guy and we’ll all criticize AJ for that choice in a year or two.

I had this weird daydream a half hour ago
Where AJ moved up and took Julio Jones. It made sense because he needs to eventually replace Jackson. Everyone was mad anyway.

This is a guy who was mocked #1 for quite a while. Disruptive DTs with his talent are rare. Put him next to Suh and you have a ridiculous D-Line.

If NFL.com is to be believed it's a pretty solid pick.
STRENGTHS
Liuget has a big, sturdy build and outstanding speed. Blessed with tremendous get off. Sheds in a hurry, finds the football and closes violently against the run. Does a great job pushing the pocket with a powerful bull rush. Never stops working. Tackles well in the open field and pursues from the backside. Great Football IQ.
WEAKNESSES
Must nit-pick to find weaknesses in this kid’s game. Does not possess ideal height but still active batting down passes. Lacks elite fluidity when getting to the quarterback but still a feared pass rusher.
Liuget belongs in the discussion with the other elite defensive tackles in this class. Arguably this year’s most productive DT against the run and also very active rushing the passer. Fires off the ball, maintains sound positioning, has hands that never stop moving, gets off blocks quickly, and closes on ball-carriers and quarterbacks with speed and power. Has the size and strength to move offensive lineman into the backfield. Also comfortable tackling in space and has the awareness to diagnose screens and draws and bat down balls at the line. Liuget has skyrocketed up draft boards this season and should be gone by the mid first.

A.J. Smith is saying the kid will play DE for the Chargers, despite many experts thinking that he’s not a fit for that position. I know what A.J. likes here. He wants someone to take up space, push blockers around and let his linebackers run free towards ballcarriers. That’s what Liuget is with the upside to be more than that. Some of the other DEs in this draft would have been better at getting penetration, but that’s not the job A.J. and the Charger Defense is asking them to do.

Castilo was 6-2, 305 in 2005.
I guess Liuget will trim down and be the same player as Castillo (open holes for the LB’s), he was in mock drafts at #13(nfl.com), but it’s not a popular pick, i thought for a second we were going with bowers, but i guess the knee issue presents a problem.

But depending on the interpretation, Islam allows adherents to skip the fast for a variety of reasons. It’s typically for health, but the more progressive interpretations may allow him to ‘cheat’ based on his vocation. An NFL player in training camp should not be fasting, so the argument is there.

It's a fairly personal choice
And you’re probably right. I’m just saying he may have a choice in the matter depending on his version of Islam. Based solely on the appearance of his draft party (i.e. burqas), I would think he’s fairly strict and would choose to fast.
