Chargers by the (Jersey) Numbers: #90

Quick – name a 90!  It’s not that easy.  For one thing, there weren’t that many.  In fact, according to my chart there were NONE UNTIL 1981!  Second of all, they were all pretty forgettable.

Sebastian Barrie, DT

Bill Elko, NT

Mack Moore, DE

Fred Robinson, DE

Cornell Thomas, DE

Reggie White, DT

Mike Wilcher, LB

John Woodcock, DE

The Runner Up

Marco Coleman, DE

Marco Coleman was acquired by the Chargers in 1996 as the answer for the departure of Leslie O’Neal.  In three years, he never quite lived up to the hype, amassing a total of only 9.5 sacks.  And then he returned to All-Pro form with the Redskins.  Thanks for not much, Marco.

The Winner

Adrian Dingle, DT

Adrian Dingle was no one’s answer to an anemic pass rush, but he managed to survive in San Diego longer than Coleman and amass more career sacks.  And by the time he cracked the starting line-up, the team had turned the corner toward mediocrity on its way to greatness.  Thanks for everything, Adrian.
