The way I reacted to Vincent [Jackson] at the bowling event was not just about my short conversation with him, rather, my response combined my built up frustration from this past off-season and contract negotiations, missed games, DUI’s, an arrest prior to playoff game, and a kicked penalty flag during a playoff game. Finally, I asked him where the misunderstanding was anyway? He was a jerk, period. Well, what came next shocked me. Not just a response from VJ, but a very lengthy email response explaining our interaction, explaining his situation, and explaining who he is as a person. I was floored.
Vincent Jackson’s Redemption Song
Remember last week, we linked to a story posted by LobShots about his interaction with Vincent Jackson at the Adrian Gonzalez Celebrity Bowling Bash? Well VJ reached out to him and set the record straight. It's a good read.

Its a good lesson for the blogger
I think its a story that needed telling. The scene did not take place at the gas station or the grocery store. If it had I think the story should not have been told. It took place at an event where V Jax was representing himself and ostensibly representing the Chargers. V Jax’s ‘tude was very un-diplomatic. You see plenty of interviews where V Jax is very approachable and level headed, this was not one of his better moments.
The opinion in the blog after is where the writer got out of bounds IMO. He could have simply journalized the exchange and let it stand without the judgments. And I think it adds to the pile of examples where V Jax gets a little worked up on occasion. Guess what? V Jax has not changed all that much. He’s still that guy: that kicks flags; and burns 3 million dollar bills; and drives really fast on the freeway; that he always was.
And that “same old, same old” story is the important part of the blog to me.

He didn't cause any damage to control
Some wanna be writer just wanted to spout off and try to be funny.
couldn't agree more...
just another wanna-be writer.

VJ does have a point though.
My cousin lives across the street from him. I have seen him come home numerous times. All I ever do is wave and say hello. I think athletes would respond much better to the public if we let them lead their lives like normal people – especially right in front of their house.
Hate the crazies as well
Always wished I could wear a shirt or something that would identify me as someone who’s not crazy, not a collector and generally enjoys shooting the breeze about football with people who knows more about it than I do.

Wearing the right shirt is a start
but you also need a good ice-breaker. I’ve found that celebrities often like to hear about my knife collection, my belief that restraining orders are more like “suggestions”, and how I can totally sympathize with that chick from Misery.

good read
seemed kind of cathartic to me… but the thing about it is VJax IS just a normal dude. he’s out in PB all the time. He’s a young guy who probably does not like the fact that his personal mistakes are discussed at the dinner tables of thousands all the time. Same way any of us would react. The fact that he’s a superstar athlete really should have nothing to do with it, in my opinion. He’s just a dude.
i really liked this article. a lot.

When the original story was posted on this site
I tried to point out how I thought that “Lob Shots” was out of line. Glad to see that he has perhaps seen the light.
It is easy to jump to conclusions about people without really knowing them at all. For example I could jump to some conclusions about a guy; who thinkgs that dropping the “F Bomb” every four seconds makes you cool, is proud that he goes to an event and gets 10 drinks that he didn’t have to pay for, and leaves without bowling but likes to point out who sucks at it. I could do some jumping based on these facts, but it just wouldn’t be fair.
i have seen the light...
F*bombs were a part of the convo with RJ, not the reason it was awesome. The 10 drinks… were b/w two of us… but thanks for not jumping to conclusions. “You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor… and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO.”
RJ does seem like a good guy
I ran into him a couple times when I lived in Poway and played in a softball game against a team he was on a long time ago. He signed autographs and talked to everybody that came up to him.
he came and sat with me and my family at his restaurant before the poinsettia bowl
and just BS’d with us for a while.

Pretty much what I figured
Great article, and a solid job by Vjack. I was almost inseparable with a high school friend of mine who went on to become the highest paid pitcher in major league history. And I can tell you he never wanted to talk baseball, infact he didnt even like talking about football.
IMO

Hey
Im a die hard colts fan and have never heard of an athlete in indy talking down to fans. I know VJ just wants to be normal and left alone. Well that cant happen its part of the job. You cant be Tom Cruise and asked to be left alone. When you play in the NFL you will get regonized. These athletes want to just be normal. O.K. I bet when VJ goes to PB he uses his status to get a nice VIP room or free drinks and treated alittle better than most average people. You cant have it both ways. You cant use your status do things normal people dont normally get than when it comes to being in public you want that status to just go away.
