It really doesn't matter if the Ravens or Steelers roll in to Oakland or Denver, they will get out with a win. So which would hurt Chargers fans the worst?
Seeing Tebow, or Palmer sporting an AFC West Championship hat?
With a season that has nothing less to offer, would it be sweeter to go up the draft board, or force the Raiders out of the playoffs?
The upside?
Solely bragging rights! The Raiders have beat the Bolts in 3 straight games, and just love to rub that in. Almost as much as those antique Lombardi trophies ( newest being 27 years old).
Also, the Chargers would be doing a great service for the rest of the NFL fans by eliminating the Raiders. Their fan base could go to Denver and watch them have a bye week basically against a mediocre rugby team that lost its magic. They could enjoy the beautiful Denver slopes and a little snowboarding while they watch their team ski right into the divisional round.
If the Raiders do slip into the playoffs, visiting fans could pencil in a win, however, the festivities in Oakland will include encountering an extremely unfriendly city and stadium, and a trip to the hospital would be very likely on the " things to do" list.
Not to mention, a playoff appearance for the fans in the halloween gear is worth a decade of bragging rights. Sweeping the Chargers two straight years will far overshadow the 13 straight the bolts won before that.
On the flip side: The Chargers have a chance to make a huge slide up the draft board here. Potentially six spots, and can possibly jump ahead of the Raiders and Broncos on the draft board for the first time since what seems likes the Ryan Leaf era.
Its also pretty much guaranteed that the Chargers are going to shake free of Norv's mediocracy, but an embarrasing finale might be the force that takes A.J out too.
Love or hate him Chargers fans, he's the major road block in getting a big time coach. With him gone, this " Cowher" or Gruden pipe dream becomes a much stronger possibility.
Regardless of a win lose or draw in Oakland, the Chargers must get rid of Jeff Hurd. The strength and conditioning coach. And it appears that the " Manusky part 2 episode " has failed as well.
Singletary and Cowher would be the 1-2 punch on the sideline that could finally get this team the discipline they really are lacking to be a contender. Don't believe me?, just read the Chargers tweet page. They're far more concerned with the new air Jordan shoes than football. That's on the management!
