I'm so tired of helmets flying off in all levels of football, and it is caused by helmets that are not fitted properly! I would say that 99% of the time the "hat" come off the player's helmet is too loose, and they have picked that size for comfort and not for safety. If the NFL is so concerned about head injuries, why not make it a helmet issue as well. A loose helmet does not protect the player as well, and when it comes off they are at extreme risk as of serious injury. Equipment managers need to fit the helmet better, and the league could implement a rule where the team is penalized 5 yard anytime a helmet comes off in the course of a play (when the headgear of face mask is not pulled by an opponent). I would much rather see this rule change than some of the ridiculous "targeting" or other over reaction calls for the hard tackles that are part of the game of football. I predict that you will see more and more serious injuries from loose helmets in the future until the league does something about it. Give them a helmet that fits, strap it down, and let them play football!
