With apologies to Wesley Hoaglund of Lenox Financial, THIS may be the biggest no-brainer in the history of mankind.
The Winner
Antonio Gates, TE
Gates’ rise to football greatness and NFL immortality is a pretty amazing story – which we’ve all heard dozens of times.
There are times, even to this day, that you see the rawness, and you recognize the fact that he wasn’t raised and groomed as a football player. I guess it’s a lot like a young prodigy who’s just so damn good at some artistic endeavor that it defies the training and seasoning that so many others go through.
What’s undeniable about Gates is his incredible athleticism for a man his size. Gates may not look like he runs fast at times, but there’s a smoothness to his running style that defies the standard Kiperistic ratings and review.
The hope, of course, is that Gates can continue his productivity – while maintaining his health – for several more years. It’s a fairly simple equation: as Gates goes, so go the Chargers. Enjoy the view while we can, guys and gals, ‘cuz it doesn’t get much better than #85.
