LOVE the new captains

Pretty much the guys I would’ve chosen.

Love that list. I’m looking for big time leadership from Jammer and Sproles.

LT, Osgood, & J-Wall

are gone now… Was the real reason they were captains, because we were sparing their feelings? It seems they were in contempt and we didn’t want show the rest of the league we had crybabies on the team.

Granted Osgood is a ST beast, LT is a dancin’ fool, and J is a wall… but at least “Crime Time” wasn’t a cap’n, and probly will never be.

LT was the captain for 7 straight years

Its probably like being an incumbent politician. Hard to get voted out.

I don’t know anyone wouldn’t make Osgood the ST captain.

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

Word.

And congrats to Osgood making his TD catch… but more importantly, beating the Burros!

Yeah

I’m afraid we’re really going to miss Osgood this season…

As I watched him stop a punt at the 1 yesterday

I was thinking that if he doesn’t do that then the Broncos have 19 extra yards of field position. 19 yards of field position is kind of a big deal.

Those ST Yards

are golden. Oh well, at least we still have Scifres.

I loved Osgood’s TD catch too; if he can’t be a Charger, at least he is still sticking the knife in the Broncos…

Hmm

Do I need to add a captain’s patch to my Hardwick jersey now? The breast area does seem lonely.

Every team has captain patches these days

In 2007 the NFL started a uniform rule that Captains wore patches. The patches have a 4 stars on them. Each year of captaincy since 2007 gets you another star that gets “lit up”. This will be the first year that some players with have 4 stars lit up (Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees come to mind).

Uh

That’s an old image of Rivers. I’m wearing the current jersey now and it doesn’t look like the one Rivers has on there. In fact, that may even be a pre-2007 pic.

Yeah, I can't find one for LT either

I guess the Chargers don’t have to obey that “rule”. Must just be a suggested uniform thing.

I believe we dont wear them

The last guy I can remember wearing one was Seau. There must be a story behind it.

I was reading a little bit on it and a few teams don't do it

I don’t know why they wouldn’t though. I wish Jim Steeg still worked for the Chargers. That would have been a great call in question for his weekly interview.

I remember hearing about it last year

They said that as a team they decided not to wear them so no player would be above the other.

I did some googlin'

and I was able to find this list of teams that do not wear the patch for whatever reason.

Chargers
Patriots
Steelers
Ravens
Jets
Raiders
Rams
Cowboys
Packers
Eagles
Vikings
Falcons

Seau didn't wear the C.

It actually was “CAPTAIN” spelled out. The Chargers opted to not wear the Captain patches when they were first introduced in 2007.

"In 2007 the NFL started a uniform rule that Captains wore patches."

Isn’t that one of the old style jerseys? If so then it’s from 2006.

by Natrone Bomb on Sep 13, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Ok well why cant I find an image with PR wearing a patch

Just seems weird, so I thought the Chargers didnt wear them. It could have changed this year

I don't know

I was just pointing out that it was an old Jersey. Maybe Rivers is afraid of snipers a la officers in the armed forces during WW2 removing rank insignia as to not make themselves a target. Mystery solved, Rivers doesn’t want to make himself a target for the enemy = )

David Binn

Love that he’s on there. As a long snapper bending over Pam Anderson, that must have been surreal.
