Filed to ESPN: Denver LB Elvis Dumervil suffered a torn pectoral muscle during Wednesday's practice that will sideline him indefinitely.
For now it sounds like Denver's Elvis Dumervil will miss at least four months, but it could well be the season. Crushing blow for Broncos.
That sound you hear is Denver fans giving up on a winning season and screaming for more Tim Tebow.

Let’s please got 6-0 against the division and then lose in the first game of the playoffs.
Bolts from the Blue - Destroying your opinions with facts.
The obvious comparison is the Jets.
Who went 2-4 in their division. Who went 7-7 in the regular season before getting a free pass into the playoffs from the Colts and Bengals. And who made it to the AFC Championship Game.
I love my team of historically talented underachievers.

Just to add...
On a fairly easy schedule that featured the Bills (who they split), the Raiders, the Jaguars, the Bucs, the Panthers, the Titans and the Falcons.
I love my team of historically talented underachievers.

That's a fancy way of saying yes
And I agree – rooting for injuries is a terrible way to be a fan. One of the few spots where I take karma (or whatever similar concept this is) very seriously.

Thing is this.
I don’t wish injury or pain on anyone. As a human being, I feel bad for Dumervil’s situation and I wish him a swift and complete recovery so that he can continue to have a productive career that he can be proud of and that he can use for the benefit of himself and his family.
That said, much like the Chargers and any other team in the NFL, I’ll take any advantage I can get. I’m pleased that the Charger’s road to the playoffs will be somewhat easier with this occurrance. I’m pleased that this will increase the chances of winning more games and impoving the team’s overall record for a higher position on the playoff hierarchy. And I’m pleased that there will be less of a chance that Dumervil will come out of nowhere to tackle Rivers and possibly injure him on a play.
The concept of winning in a tough division or making the playoffs with an extremely difficult schedule is vastly overrated. The only point of the regular season is to get into the single elimination tournament that is the playoffs. There’s no bonus points for a difficult schedule, this isn’t the BCS. Just make it into the playoffs and there, anything can happen.
I seriously doubt that the Patriots and their fans are bemoaning the fact that their team made it to the playoffs and essentially the Super Bowl on the backs of a division that featured the Bills, Dolphins and Jets at a period when they totally sucked. I seriously doubt the Dolphins will put on asterisk on the only perfect season in NFL history because their regular season was pretty easy. And I seriously doubt anyone in the NFC East is happy that they have to fight tooth and nail every year in a division where 3/4ths fo the teams are always playoff contenders.
So as I said before, sad news for Dumervil. I hope he has a swift and complete recovery. And I also hope this makes things a little easier for the Chargers and allows them to prep better for the postseason.
I love my team of historically talented underachievers.

This right here, kids, just bolstered McNeill's case for a contract extension
"Don’t get nervous. Norv is in charge."

...or weakens it
Who needs McNeill when the division’s best pass rusher just left? Just kidding, a little.
Perhaps just solidifies the divide between the team and McNeill – a contemporary example of exactly why the player wants a long-term deal, and also exactly why the team doesn’t after the Broncos just shelled out a bucket’o’money to a guy they won’t have for most or all of the year.
by Lenny Suckerpunch on Aug 5, 2010 9:28 AM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
But they just paid out huge bucks to someone who won't play this year
and may not play next year either.
by Natrone Bomb on Aug 5, 2010 11:00 AM PDT up reply actions
So a six year contract with $43 million guaranteed
becomes a 4 year contract with $43 million guaranteed if indeed there is a lock out next year.
by Natrone Bomb on Aug 5, 2010 11:04 AM PDT up reply actions
Yup
unless they cut him, which is unlikely.

Bingo...
All the analysts on TV and radio are commenting on how much the Dumervil injury strengthens the cases of the players holding out for long term deals.
While this is true to some extent from the player point of view, it strengthens the team’s stance as well. The Broncos just shelled out a huge deal of coin to a guy that most likely won’t be playing at all this season, and could potentially be sitting out all of next season as well if there is a lockout. So you are talking about potentially paying a player $12M over two seasons for not playing a single snap on the field…
indeed
and is why we will not see McNeill or VJ in a Charger uniforma this year without a long term deal.
