Chargers Training Camp: LT Tra Thomas Retires

I'm going to assume his recovery from getting his knee scoped wasn't going so well, or he knew that Brandyn Dombrowski wasn't about to lose the starting LT job, because Tra Thomas has retired.

Tra Thomas

#72 / Offensive Tackle / San Diego Chargers

Florida State

Without Marcus McNeill returning anytime soon, this leaves the Chargers with only Dombrowski, Tyronne Green (who moved to OT this offseason) and Nick Richmond (a very raw rookie) as the only options at tackle. Expect the team to either start negotiations with McNeill or sign another veteran like Thomas in the next week or so.

Looks like after returning from knee surgery he realized Green was going to remain above him on the depth chart. That’d be a good reason to leave.

No Green and no Richmond for the game tonight. After Dombrowski leaves it’ll be somebody named Ryan Otterson.

Great excuse to negotiate with McNeil

Maybe just a 1-yr deal @ or above the original tender?
I would be stoked if they could work that out

I really don’t think he’d take a 1 year deal at this point, from what I’ve heard.

Hmm

well, whatever it takes within reason i suppose.
They could make a lot riskier moves than signing McNeill to a long term deal in my opinion, would really solidify the o line for this season.

Maybe a flexible deal?

Like the D’Brick deal, but with perhaps smaller incentives at the same amount of cash? So if he has a good year, he’ll be easy to trade without a big cash investment; the team that would sign him knows exactly what the (pricey) deal is, take it or leave it. The Bolts drop a little under what they would have spent on McN plus VJ, McN gets respectable pay for a year and knows exactly what he’s working for thereafter.

This.

this is my only gripe against A.J. all you said is doable. at least “TRY” to negotiate with you’re $94 mil QB’s blindside. i suspect it’s a business move and A.J. is using the CBA as an excuse, to get his players to play for cheap. $3mil a year, on a 4 or 5 years deal, with incentives isn’t going to kill us even if there is a strike year.

Think maybe McNeil paid him a few bucks to retire?

Just kidding. But it’s a fun conspiracy theory to start up.

Except Big Mac doesnt even have the money to payoff Tra

Big Mac has made like 2.5 mil in his whole career, Tra has probably made ten times that

^^^^ This comment looks like one of mine

Did I get drunk and hack into Foilhat’s account. Because it has everything. A slight tinge of some facts and a very serious reply to another comment that include the words “just kidding”.

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

Who is washed up and on the street

as far as OTs go? Personally I hope we just go with Richmond or use 8 OL, or maybe go with a waiver wire body when final cuts come down.
