Pacstud O-Line Analysis: Bears (2nd Half)
Start of 2nd Half
Drive 5
LT – Green LG – Hansen C – McDonald RG – Stephenson RT - Dombrowski
31. 1-10; 11
Pro Wing Rt. Strong
22 Iso
LT-2; LG-1.5; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
LG needs to seal better and the C/RG have a nice double to LB. RB needs to follow FB through A gap.
32. 2-8; 9
Pro Wing Rt. Strong
21 Lead Draw
LT-2; LG-1.5; C-1.5; RG-1.5; RT-1.5
Botched from the start. Banks can’t get edge by alignment. The LG/C combo don’t get the LB (stay on double) and the RG/RT combo does the same thing. Who has the Will? The FB takes Mike.
33. 3-9; 10
22 Gun Lt.
61 Pro
LT-2; LG-.5; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
The LG never sees the loop and couldn’t pick it up even if he did.
Drive 6
34. 1-10; -32
Pro Lt. Weak
60 Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
35. 2-5; -37
Blue Rt. Y-Up
61 Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
Looks to be gap protection all the way across, FB can’t handle LB.
36. 3-5; -37
Pro Rt. Strong
61 Pro
LT-2; LG-1.5; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
LG loses balance and gets beat outside.
37. 1-10; -43
Blue Rt. Y-Up
61 Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-1; RT-2
This time the RG gets a little tipsy.
38. 1-10; 46
Pro Lt. Weak Y-Up
722 PA Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
O-line picks up all their gaps. RB and FB have DB and LB respectively and do NOT pick them up worth a darn.
39. 2-15; -49
Ace H-Flanker
623 PA Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
Very good.
40. 1-10; 29
Pro Rt.
28 G-Lead
LT-0; LG-0; C-1; RG-2; RT-2
The LT misses his cut block on the LB and his GMP. The LG misses the DT and the FB has to pick him up. Center makes a decent cut but his GMP. RG pulls nicely and gets LB, and the RT gets a very nice pancake!
41. 2-6; 25
Pro Rt.
624 PA Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
42. 3-6; 25
22 Gun Lt.
61 Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
Best pass pro by scrubs. Stunts on both sides which are picked up very nicely.
Drive 7
LT – Otterson RT – Bond
43. 1-10; -12
Texas Lt. H-Flanker
24 Zone Lead
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-0; RT-2
The FB is literally lost. Almost funny to watch. The RG goes all matador on us. RT does well on his solo, and the LG/C combo is well done.
44. 2-12; -10
Y-Trips Lt. Open Rt. SB
61 Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-1.5
The RT gets to deep and stays too parallel and gives up the inside.
45. 3-2; -20
Pro Rt.
624 PA Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
46. 1-10; 49
Pro Lt.
24 Zone Lead
LT-1.5; LG-1.5; C-0; RG-2; RT-2
LT just needs to stay on a bit longer. The LG has a so-so cut block. The C overruns his overtake and his GMP. RG/RT both do well. On a side note, #75 is very good for the Bears. Very good.
47. 2-7; 46
Pro Lt. Y-Flanker Up
724 Max PA Pro (Max = 8 Man Pro)
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-1.5; RT-1.5
Both RG and RT are slow to their gap (it’s gap protection) and get turned.
48. 1-10; 32
Trips Bunch Lt. Open Rt. SB
29 Toss
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-0; RT-2
The RG can’t cut #75 and his GMP. LG does well. The FB blocks the LT’s man??? Banks whiffs completely and his GMP.
49. 2-13; 35
Pro Rt. Weak
60 Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
50. 3-13; 35
Blue Twins Rt. Open Lt.
60 Pro
LT-.5; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
LT gets pushed too far back and into QB.
Drive 8
51. 1-10; 36

Thank you Chicago Bears broadcasting network and your crack team of highschoolers!
52. 2-6; 32
Pro Rt.
829 Naked
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
53. 3-4; 30
22 Gun Lt. Y-Down
61 Pro
LT-0; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-0
Tough to see, but it is a CLUSTER. The LT? I have no clue what he’s doing. The RT? Someone on the right side, either the RT or the Y, actually gets all the way turned around and faces the QB. U-G-L-Y!
Drive 9
54. 1-10; 41
Ace Tight H-Flanker
28 Sweep
LT-1; LG-2; C-0; RG-0; RT-0
#34 blows the whole play by missing his crack block. RT and RG get blown off track and can’t do squat. #34 actually takes out his own guy, the C! The RG does well and the LT has a so-so backside cut block.
55. 2-10; 41
Pro Lt. Strong
27 Power
LT-2; LG-1; C-1; RG-0; RT-2
The LG/C combo does OK on 1st level but never pick up or get to the Will. The RG pulls to nowhere. Watch the RT and DE on the backside. That’s what we call “brother-in-lawing it”. Tee hee.
56. 3-5; 36
Ace H-Flanker
RB Screen Lt.
LT-1; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
LT gives a bit too much on his wash. The rest do well and look set up to go.
57. 4-5; 36
22 Gun Rt.
60 Pro
LT-1; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-0
Both the LT/LG and RT/RG can’t switch due to bad depth.
58. 1-10; 25
Pro Rt.
23 Zone Lead
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
Y misses his guy.
59. 2-8; 23
Pro Rt.
23 Zone Lead
LT-2; LG-1.5; C-1; RG-2; RT-1
LG needs to stay on a bit longer. The C can’t and never does come off. The RT needs to stay on his zone path to the LB instead of going all “sprinkler head” on us.
60. 3-8; 23
Pro Rt.
722 Max PA Pro
LT-.5; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
LT gets beat inside.
Drive 10
61. 1-10; -46
Pro Rt. Y-Flanker
32 Zone
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-1; RT-2
RG needs to come off and get the LB.
62. 2-8; -48
Pro Wing Lt. Y-Up
29 Sweep
LT-2; LG-0; C-2; RG-2; RT-1.5
The LG gets derailed by the crack block (lack of depth???) and gets no one, his GMP. Center does very well.
63. 3-4; 48
Pro Lt. Y-Flanker
724 Max PA Pro
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
64. 1-10; 36
Pro Lt.
29 G-Lead
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
Play of the game for the scrubbies!!! Well designed and executed play. One of my personal favorites from Sith Lord Norval. ALL blocks achieved and you see the results.
65. 1-10; 22
Pro Rt.
28 G-Lead
LT-1; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
Y gets BLOWN UP and the FB veers too wide. LT misses his block but still diverts.
66. 2-1; 13
Pro Rt. Strong
26 Power
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-0; RT-2
RG essentially does nothing as the 1st level is secure and he won’t come off to Will! LG does pretty good. The RT/Y double to Mike is very nice.
67. 1-G; 10
Texas Rt. H-Flanker
24 Zone Lead
LT-2; LG-2; C-2; RG-2; RT-2
Norv is wise to let the game end here and go out on a high note. Well blocked…very well.

Woot! Another great analysis
Thanks PacStud! I really like to study your analysis of line play.
On Par
It seems like the O-line played very well. High or max scores on 4/5th of the plays. It seems like they are doing better than last year (at least against the Bears – we’ have to see how they do against the Boys).
My one glaring take away is that our lead blocking stinks. Many, many blown opportunities by the FBs. Yeah I know all these guys can catch. But I still think their main job should be to make that last key block to spring the RB.
It seemed to me that Lasko (#34) was doing a pretty good job. What do you think about Lasko last week PacStud?
You won't like it but
I didn’t think he did very well. If he just needs to run iso (lead), ok…but so insonsistent and TUNNEL vision. He missed his guy one time and actually turned around to go get him. Not good. His pass pro was awful. A PS project imo
When all else fails....
run Iso!
Well he's young, maybe they can coach him up.
Yeah was I was kinda obsessing on his lead blocking vs. the other protections. It just looked like he was winning those assignments at the point of attack better than what I’ve seen the other guys do in the past few years.
Where is Bronko Nagurski when we need him?

Agree
I don’t see where he brings anything to the table that would indicate that he sticks.
Thanks again for the analysis.

Ya know Lasko a guy that would probably clear waivers
And maybe a year on the practice squad gets him to where he needs to be.

I would rather take a chance on one of the FB's from the Jets
if we are going to be looking for a lead blocking FB…which is a big “if.” They have 3 solid guys in there, and there will be a good guy cut.
That being said, I don’t think we are looking for a lead-blocking FB. If we need help running Iso on the goalline, we have several options to plug in at FB:
-Hester (meh, hope he’s improved)
-Tolbert (added options with his versatility)
-Wilson (see comment for Tolbert)
-Nwagbuo (you laugh, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this once or twice, especially after seeing him on the wedge on Kickoff returns and springing Goodman for the big return last week)
I'm not sure
why we let Cory Jackson go so quickly. He was one of a very, very few bright spots in the U of MD program. Not saying that he necessarily would have been what we’re looking for in a FB, but it sure seems to me that he could have competed with the rest of these guys.
