Merriman will not be on time
Shawne Merriman will not report to training camp, likely until he gets some assurances that he isn't going to be in limbo.
Merriman said he is not looking or a long-term contract or even a raise from the $3.269 million the Chargers have offered in a one-year tender.
"It's not about me wanting more money," Merriman said. "I will show what I deserve. I don’t have to ask for it. I feel like I've proved what I'm worth, and I will still prove it. To me, it really comes down to, 'Am I on the trading block this week? The third week of the season, am I on the block?' Where is that comforability for me?

In before the hate
I would do the same thing.
"I sawed a woman in the park today"
Not bad grammar. Just recollections of a deranged killer.
Whatever.
It’s not like he has real trade value this year, beyond the comp 3rd he could fetch if he has a good season. I think they should go ahead and offer him a no-trade clause.

I think he should shut up and go to camp.
If he gets traded then, tough shit, he’s not the first one.
Oh internet, what a wicked web you weave.
No hate - he's just pulling a Leslie O'Neill
Seen that movie before and I know how it ends. He just wants to minimize the pain of training camp.
Traded? Why should Merriman even worry about being traded? Any team that trades for Merriman without a doubt will give him the two things he cares about most money, and mo money.
If anything Merriman WANTS to be traded, what he does not want is to sweat his ass off in two-a-days.
It is gonna come back to haunt him, both politically with the coaches and in terms of the benifit from preparation.

I disagree with the first part of that. I think this shows that Merriman wants to play somewhere where he has a reason to play besides money. He wants to feel invested. He wants to listen to the coaches and think “This is going to pay off later.” That’s how I read it anyways.

Play calling was a big part of why his numbers sucked last year
To get to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow Merriman needs sacks and tackles for a loss in the 2011 season.
Let’s face it Merriman can not free lance out there. Rivera calls the plays. If I was Rivera I’d be a little up set that Pocahontas does not want to come to practice because he’s worried about getting traded; or can’t find any more blue hair dye; or whatever the excuse is.
Bottom line is if Merriman is not in camp, he can’t be coached, and he puts himself and the entire defense behind. Merriman’s absence is a distraction. The situation would piss me off if my job as DC was on the line. And it would be pretty easy to screw Merriman out of his opportunities to shine w/o hurting the overall defensive scheme. Shaun Philips you’re the next contestant on the price is right!

comforability?
Is that a word?
"Never give up, even in defeat." I go for both the Bolts and the Vikings, so I guess you could call me Thor.
The word is comfortability. Acee typo!

Come on, man...
Quit being such a baby. You earn money, it’s a business. It’s the NFL, everyone is ALWAYS on the trading block, if the right offer presents itself.
Okay, maybe AJ shouldn’t be constantly making statements on Shawne’s trade status, but the media asks and AJ is a straight-shooter. I think he’s just trying to get out of some workouts and conditioning tests…
One of the dumbest statements ever made by Lights
He just doesnt want to be traded. Ok well if you dont want to be traded stop being a media whore and start playing well.

exactly
all he’s doing on twitter is attaching links for the different media outlets covering his ridiculous “respect campaign.”
Is it ironic that he wishes for AJ to say something along the lines of the team’s respect for him as a leader of the team yet he is going to refuse to come to training camp to practice with said team because he is looking for “commitment from the team”? Gee Shawne, they gave you an offer to play for a year for $3.269 Million, but he wants the GM to say some kind words to the media to show “commitment”?
Will the next defensive leader please stand up?

I see his point. He wants to be a leader, but nobody is going to respect him if they think he might be gone any day.

No one respects all talk and no action either
4 sacks in the last 2 years and this guy wants a defense build around him. HAHA I want my girl to bring home her sister one late epic night, but it aint happening
IMO
I bet you he's had dumber ones.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

siit up and show up
Maybe about 10 more lights out dances would help the team and greatly improve his stock
What
has he proved? He delayed surgery only to screw himself up more, then came back the following season and had 4 sacks and 20 something tackles.. He had a great year prior to his injury, no one is denying that.. I understand that injurys take time to heal from, but thats life.. He should be stoked with what we are offering him and play his fucking heart out this year and prove what hes worth! We all know he has potential to be of the elite LB’s he just needs to blow up this year! We have faith in you SM!!!
well, look at it this way:
it gives Larry English all the better chance to prove that we didn’t waste a pick on him last year. Hopefully there is at least one charger with double digit sacks this year. I’m hoping its English.
I’m kindof hoping it’s Applewhite. I love Applewhite.

There's heaps of em.
We got plenty of linebackers to make an impact, they’re all competing, so I’m keen to see who comes out the other side.

I pull for those former Aztecs too.
So I’m right there with you.

Yeah I always root for Applewhite
Seems as if he bulked up, the Chargers list him at 258 this year.
IMO
This is his year...
Big time Applewhite fan here…he was poised to break out last season before he got hurt. With English having a full season of experience, he will steal some of Applewhite’s reps but I still think we’ll get to see him a decent amount. I’m definitely rooting for him to beat out Tucker for the 4th OLB position.
I think, because of his versatility, Applewhite is the only potential replacement we have for Phillips.

I wouldn't mind at all...
If that ended up being the case. SP has done a great job for us here in SD, but I just don’t see him getting extended in SD past his current contract.
Agreed.
Lots of Aztecs to root for this year.
