Around SBN: Why We're Skeptical Of LeBron James

"We'll start off with Brandyn Dombrowski at left tackle," Norv Turner said on NFL Network. "He played eight or nine games at right tackle, but he's more of a natural fit on the left side. We signed Tra Thomas, which gives us some experience and depth over there."

This makes a lot of sense to me

The most important part of playing offensive line is working together with your teammates. Dombrowski has way more experience working with the Chargers OLine than Thomas does.

I also question whether Thomas is even a more gifted player at this pointed in their careers.

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.

I would agree. I was actually happy to hear Dombo will get the shot

I wonder how many undrafted guards play left tackle in the league

IMO

IF HE PLAYS SUPERBLY...

we WILL deal MM for a 2nd rounder.

by Gorditoe1 on Jul 28, 2010 3:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes but when can we say he's playing superbly

Would it be after week five against the Raiders?
…or after week seven against the Pats?

And do we start bumping up against the trade deadline before we play against a good enough DL to really have confidence the Dombrowski is good enough to justify replacing MM?

by Trendsearcher on Jul 28, 2010 3:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Things have changed slightly now with a supposed MM contract in the midst. If MM ends up holding out thru the season then I guess there would be no other remedy but to trade him.Regardless of how Dombo is playing…IMO I might add.

by Gorditoe1 on Jul 28, 2010 6:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Most likely

He will become a free agent if he holds out the entire season as well. The likelihood of a player coming back after week 10 to play for less than $300,000 while risking injury is very slim.

w/o 2011 credit and no new CBA

aren’t Merriman, V-Jax and MM in the same boat next year? They do need to at least get those 10 games in 2011 to get to FA status correct?

by Trendsearcher on Jul 29, 2010 12:30 PM PDT up reply actions

A positive sign for Dombrowski

and a sign that perhaps the Eagles and Jags knew what Tra had or did not have left. If we can’t have MM I would prefer to see Dombrowski out there instead of the over the hill Thomas.

by JeromeB on Jul 28, 2010 3:18 PM PDT reply actions

That didn't take long

I’m telling you guys …. I’m not at all sure that Mac or VJ are figuring into this team long-term. This whole process, IMO, somehow smacks of a test of whether they’re in it for glory or the money.

Is Dombrowski the answer at LT? I dunno, but I think that the Chargers are ready to see. Looks like we won’t get to see it, but this could have been one helluva camp battle (Mac & Dombrowski).

Thomas will provide some good veteran depth just in case.

I agree.

I’ll even give mac a double “>”
MM > > Dombro

I completely disagree

Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t think MM is much better than Dombro.

iv liked what iv seen from Dombrowski

But i dont think its fair at this moment to say he is at the level of Mcneil. He has the talent and iif he con be consistent and does a good job this year then he will be on Mcneils level.

I just don't think that much of McNeil's level.

There’s also the typical AJ equation where if you get maybe, two thirds of the player for less than a third of the price then it’s more beneficial to the overall team…

Take away his rookie season and I haven’t been terribly impressed.

He appears to have regressed. Injuries, perhaps.

by aesimpleton on Jul 28, 2010 6:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed

McNeill is a pretty poor drive blocker & has been moving downhill since his first year.

I don’t know that Dombrowski is better than McNeill yet, but I think he has the chance to be.

Maybe I am

but that doesn’t change the fact that McNeill is a waist-bender who is very poor at drive blocking.

This is great!

I would rather have someone who has played on are oline and has experience than tra who hasn’t.
Obviously not MM but still a good fit. Dombrow is a hard worker and a great tackle!

by boltpride on Jul 28, 2010 4:01 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

And

What if MM ends up not playing… Who would you honestly rather have at LT Tra or Dombrow???

by boltpride on Jul 28, 2010 4:07 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Dombro

I love this kid. He has a lot of potential, imo
