Former Fresno State receiver hopes to join roommate Ryan Mathews on the Chargers’ roster despite odds.
"Ellison to rejoin Carroll" by Bolts Bulletin
The Chargers did not think he could help them, but numerous people in the organization talked the past month about what type of person they thought he was and that they thought he'd successfully work through his off-field woes.
Chargers Take A Bad Offseason Gamble - Rob Zepeda
A big reason why we listed Offensive Tackle and Wide Receiver as needs was the fact that Marcus McNeill and Vincent Jackson were approaching the last season on their contracts and the team had little to no depth behind them. Fast forward to today, and the Chargers find themselves a much worse team in 2010 than in 2009.
Chargers Release Kevin Ellison, Three Others - Jason Owens
The San Diego Chargers released four players on Monday, most notably embattled safety Kevin Ellison.

Christopher Smith
SWOOOOON
Anyone else think they got a dude from Alabama so that he’d be best buds with Rivers? That’s gotta be at least a perk, right?
"When they come for me I'll be sitting at my desk, with a gun in my hand wearing a bullet-proof vest, singing 'My, my, my, how the time does fly when you know you're going to die by the end of the night.'" - Catch 22
With a prison tat?
A tear drop for my Grams!? Sure… Tell me another one. Dude has been (or wanted to be) a banger. Something tells me that P. Rivers wants to keep his wife and five kids away from Richard Goodman.
I’m probably all wrong on my interpretation of the tats. I’ll have to apologize to Richard at church or something. With his body type he’s gonna have to snag every ball thrown his way for the next six months to make the team. A very long shot to make the team.

Ummm....
First off, don’t go judging by tats. That’s not cool. I got a big ol’ tattoo for my grandmother too, doesn’t make me a bad person.
Secondly, I was talking about Christopher Smith.

As far as Goodman goes
He was suspended from his team last year after an arrest in connection with the battery of a sorority member. He turned himself in and all the charges were dropped after he could not be identified as a fight participant. He claimed that a fraternity member that looked like him was responsible. For details follow the link. I wouldn’t call him a trouble-maker, but he’s not exactly squeaky clean either.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
It could ligitimitely represent the loss of his Grandmother, but could have several other meanings as well.

Photograph of Lil Wayne with teardrop tattoos below his eyes. The teardrop tattoo or tear tattoo is a symbolic tattoo that is placed underneath the eye. The tattoo has several connotations. Teardrop tattoos usually signify the loss of a friend or loved one. The different kinds and their meanings are:
A filled tear signifies that a loved one has been killed or that the bearer has unsuccessfully attempted murder (shot someone else).1
An empty tattoo signifies that they killed a person
A tear with an empty top and a full bottom means that the wearer has avenged the murder of a loved one.(unsuccessfully or successfully)[citation needed]
A tear with no filling also means that a person or individual has done at least a year of time in prison or county jail.[citation needed]
The majority of the ‘tear tattoos’ seen in popular culture today, however, signify that the wearer has killed. The number of tears usually represents the number of killings, although that was not the original meaning of tear tattoos.1
It is a tattoo that is almost always associated with prison tattoos and membership in a gang. Tear tattoos, when given in prison, are primarily to indicate that the bearer has murdered someone, either in or out of jail.123 The tattoo can also be given to commemorate a loved one who died while the wearer was incarcerated.2 Also a teardrop can be given for every five straight years of hard time a person has done in prison.

New Fish
Something tells me New Fish has not been down. Goodman is crossing a line by putting on the colors before he’s done the deed or the time.
How long before he gets shanked in the Chargers’ locker room showers?
No offence intended on the tats John. There is just some art that carries baggage (pichuco’s, tear drops, SS, swastika etc.) Art like that shouts "I’m a thug". He’s probably alright, we will all just have to get past it.

I get that
but the tear drop is a tough one, man. I know so many people that have it and for most of them it’s just about remembering their loss and the person they lost. I know Birdman and Lil’ Wayne have done a lot to make it a “thug” thing, but the majority of the time when it’s on someone who hasn’t done time it’s not.
"It means pain and suffering for somebody you care about that passed away," Goodman said of the tattoo. "(My grandmother) passed away a couple years back and it’s a forever-lasting tear that I’ll always have. Every time I look in the mirror, I remember her."
My question is….why would he lie about that? One of my best friends has a few tats left from a rough childhood in Oakland, but he doesn’t make up fake stories about them. They’re “a reminder of what I came from” or something like that. I don’t see Goodman being that dude who’s going to make up a story about his grandmother dying just to explain away a tattoo. Maybe that’s just me.

He’d lie if he got the art any other reason but Granny
My question is….why would he lie about that?
New Fish is trying to make the team. The face art raises questions. Is this guy the next Mike Tyson? In a worse case scenario, let’s say he was a thug. Again worse case, let’s say he earned the stripe and got away with it. Do you think that story, helps or hurts New Fish’s chances of signing an NFL contract?
Lie or no lie there can be only one story for the media – the Granny story. Most of the people I’ve encountered with prison tats on their face …. Not Momma’s boys if you know what I mean.

I disagree
These days, the “I came from a rough hood and finally got away from it” is a story everyone latches onto even more. Just my opinion though.
I think you’re judging the guy a little quick for a tattoo he got for his grandmother. Some of the kindest, quietest and most boring people I’ve ever met in my life are covered in tattoos and piercings. Rich is already covered in tattoos, some very meaningful for him, so it’s not a big stretch to think he might put his the one for his grandmother on his face. Like he said, it helps him to remember her every time he looks in the mirror.
My body is mine. I’ve chosen to make certain parts of it a canvas, and as I grow older that canvas will probably grow as well. Will I ever get a tattoo on my face? Hard to say. But if I did I don’t think that would immediately throw me in a room with Mike Tyson and street thugs.
Where’s TTG when I need him?
