Serious Business: 5/29 Chargers Links
Tucker’s showing value to Chargers - Kevin Acee
With an agility no coach can teach, balance bestowed at birth, Tucker not only did not topple but got up before being tackled and took off running the other direction.
Chargers' weakness: Defensive line - Matt Williamson
The Chargers’ run defense was a big problem in 2009. From my perspective, the defensive line was the culprit for this inability to consistently close down running lanes. What has changed so dramatically from a year ago to suggest that the problem has been corrected?
Getting comfortable - Christopher Smith
Dombrowski feeling comfortable and warming to the idea of playing tackle.
Loaded backfield - Christopher Smith
Sproles returns from sore hamstring, practices with Mathews for the first time.
"Gates returns" by Bolts Bulletin
Antonio Gates was prescribed rest and rehab but should be full-go by training camp.

Lorenzo Neal
I see that Lorenzo Neal is assisting some of the backs on the Boltz. I don’t think the NFL has ever seen a better blocking back than Neal. This is great news – make him a coach.

Tucker
I’m not sold on him yet. So many of his sacks have come against the Raiders; and they have such a poor line it’s just hard to know. I think AJ reached too far on his contract, not that it’s a huge deal.

It is interesting to note
That AJ hasn’t given out and long term deals to young guys since the Tucker and Castillo contracts proved a bit premature (other than the Rivers no-brainer)
I wonder if he is gun shy, or if his philosophy has changed. Either way, we’ve got more than our share if FAs after this year as a result.

True
You also have the uncertainty of the CBA. Cap or no cap? Will bonus’ be handled the same way? If they structure deals now without knowing the rules, they are going to take a risk. I’d like to see them sign VJ and McNeil anyway, but I understand the hesitancy (not to mention that they save a boatload of cash).

i don’t think there is going to be a cap. so as far as A.J. is concerned that puts him in the driver seat, and really doesn’t have any incentive to get a deal done with his URFA. so it might be in the the mentioned fours best interests, to sign their tenders, clean up their lifestyles, play your butt off and increase there value.
that way we would have something to genuinely gripe about if AJ traded, released, or just plain let them walk….

On its face
I would think they would sign. How can they risk going from holdout to strike? Two years with none or half of their income is rough, and when the average NFL career is four years, why would you make that choice?

I just don't think the Chargers are confident there will be football next year.
Why should they be? Both sides are telling everybody that there will be a lockout. Why the heck would they give out big-$ contracts? Rivers made sense. But Gates has a foot injury and needs to show he’s healthy. McNeill and Floyd need to show they can stay healthy. VJ needs to show he can stay out of trouble. Merriman needs to do all of the above. Why would any of them get new contracts now?
This is silly. Sign the tender, take the money, be very, very frugal, and be very, very diligent about maintaining your fitness in the coming non-football year.
What is best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the cheerleaders!

white
I don’t understand the entirety of Lendale White being dropped from Seattle,. There must be something as he is in great shape and seems to have matured. It might be a good fit for the Bolts, pending the real reasons why he was cut? Ryan Mathews is a stud! The Bolts need more studs. Keep Merriman…

I thought the rumor is that he's going to be suspended by the league.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong about that.
