Well looks like the Cro is going over to the Jets making that D look like it may be real hard to pass against next year. Have really mixed feelings about this one but I can Deffinatly see why it happened he was beginning to have just to many flaws. He was terrible on the tackle and that freeze up against Greene in that jets playoff game was just the final last unforgivable straw. But on the other hand the guy was still good at defending the pass and he has a tremendous amount of potential just has to get over his off the feild issues. what do you guys think?

I think it made no sense to keep Cason on the bench for another season when he’s probably just about as good as Cromartie.

No need to have mixed feelings my friend...

Cromartie was a cancer to the team. 1)His off-field issues are going to land him in jail sooner or later. 2)He publically complained about how he didn’t like the defense and even blamed other players when he made mistakes.3)He was horrible in Zone coverage and his best plays in man coverage came from sneaky tugs and pulls to opposing players. His only real attribute was his athleticism, he didn’t follow directions and he was a poor teammate, guys like that slowly eat away at a team from the inside. We should be glad he’s gone, Cason follows directions well and Rivera will give him help over the top until he’s ready to take the reigns as a starter. We’ll be fine and we’ll probably draft Brandon Ghee or Chris Cook this year so we’ll have some future CB talent to look forward to.

Your right on!

Yeah your right I just hate to see him go back to his 2007 ays with another team but as you pointe out he i not want to be bolt anymore so to hell in a hand basket with him.

Talent at CB

I agree with zionking in that we will draft a good corner this year for future talent and depth. And the good news is most analysts are saying this is the deepest group of db talent in the draft in a long time. I would be cool with having ghee or cook for sure or Patrick Robinson and A.J Jefferson who looked amazing at the combine and we may be able to get him mid rounds!

yeah this a Deep B year with some real good talent. and i think Cason will do fine opposite of Jammer he shows alot of talent

One guy who could be a 6/7th round steal at corner is Walter Thurmond.

He missed most of last season with a knee injury, but he was playing as good as any corner in the country prior to his knee. He would have had All-American status and been a 1st/2nd rounder had he not been injured.

This off-season officially sucks for FIVE reasons and counting...

Freeze up

wasn’t the problem on the play against the Jets. It was our front 7 getting blown off the TV screen. Scapegoating Cromartie is not going to solve our weakness up front.

very good point

If you’re counting on your CB to make a tackle on a running play inside the tackles you’re probably going to have trouble. That being said, he did back off and could have made the tackle.

I agree that he can't be fully blamed on inside runs...

But the video of that play will never leave the head of any Chargers fan.
He was right there, in a do-or-die situation and he backed off.
If I was there, all 140 lbs of me, I would have dove at his ankles, or
at the very least just gotten in the way. Sure I would get run over, but
at least I might slow him down for a teammate. All I can say is that
he clearly didn’t give it his all and doing that will only make enemies of your fans.

Well said.

Anyone, ANYONE could have made the impact that Cromartie made on that play. Hell, even a geriatric in an electric wheelchair could have at least tried to do something. What really irks me is that Cromartie didn’t try. He didn’t care. It was a playoff game!

For all the bitching about that play in teh Jets game

I didn’t even notice it at the time. When I saw it on replay, I thought it was bad, not as clearly horrible as many seem to think.

that horrible game that represented cro (rightfully so)

He didn’t even try. Do or do not, there is no try cro. When Greene broke that run who wasn’t openly wondering wtf happened there? Merriman for all his faults had a pretty good game. I had endzone seats that game and there was a play that easily was under the radar but blew me away. At the beginning of the 4th q Greene ran off the right tackle for 4 yards and completely had a td except that merriman dove (a la peyton sack in2005) and stopped him at the 2. Merriman completely laid out to stop the td from the two. Merriman seems like he can be a moderately humble jerk, but that play took committment. Exactly the opposite of cro. Maybe the next time we see cro he’ll be looking for his 8th child on Millionaire’s Club.

I used to really like cro, but mentally he couldn’t take his skills and consistenly translate that into results. And now all we get is a 3rd round pick for a season that won’t happen. Totally worth it.

Bring back Balboa Stadium.
