Serious Business: 3/4 Chargers Links
Key piece of Final Eight Plan is finalized - Mike Florio
For teams No. 5 through No. 8 (Chargers, Ravens, Cardinals, Cowboys), the Final Eight Plan carries with it an exception. A big one. One unrestricted free agent may be signed for a first-year salary above a certain number, and an unlimited amount may be signed at a first-year salary below a certain number, with limited growth in the future.
Raiders Give Kirk Morrison Original Round Tender - Aaron Schatz
You too can have Kirk Morrison for the low, low price of a third-round draft pick (plus, of course, money).
"Trading Cromartie difficult" by Bolts Bulletin
I really think that Cromartie and the Chargers have reached a point where they will part ways prior to the 2010 season. But it will be easier said than done.
2010 NFL Draft: Post-Combine Mock Draft - The Big Lead
28 San Diego Chargers – Jahvid Best, RB, California. Similar in size to LT. California kid.
Cromartie on Jets' radar? - Clark Judge
There was loose talk about the Raiders' Nnamdi Asomugha after he told reporters at the Pro Bowl that he would like to be teamed with Revis, but the Raiders aren't going to let him go. That's not the case with Cromartie and the Chargers, and a move to New York would make sense.

I <3 the Chargers Equipment Manager

Wick says he won’t issue Tomlinson’s No. 21 or Junior Seau’s No. 55 unless he is instructed to do so by upper management. Similarly, though to a slightly lesser extent, Wick strives to keep Charlie Joiner’s No. 18 from falling onto the wrong shoulder pads.

But he ahd no quams about handing out #80 to an UDFA
granted it worked out ok but still…

To be clear
Floyd wore #13 his first season and was only allowed to wear #80 after he proved he had big potential.
"When they come for me I'll be sitting at my desk, with a gun in my hand wearing a bullet-proof vest, singing 'My, my, my, how the time does fly when you know you're going to die by the end of the night.'" - Catch 22
Mike Florio seems to think that the Chargers have it wrong, and that the team could offer Sproles an RFA tender without having to pay him 110% of his 2009 salary. The Rams seem to believe the same thing, and are trying to save money on their 2009 franchise player.
If this is true, the Chargers would almost certainly throw a RFA tender at Sproles (3rd rounder?). Didn’t somebody do the research here and find out that Florio is wrong?
"When they come for me I'll be sitting at my desk, with a gun in my hand wearing a bullet-proof vest, singing 'My, my, my, how the time does fly when you know you're going to die by the end of the night.'" - Catch 22
The CBA
has a tender level for RFAs that does not require at least a 110% pay raise. It doesn’t provide for any compensation if he leaves, but it does allow us to match any offer. There is some confusion because elsewhere in the CBA it says that any tendered RFA must receive at least a 110% raise. It soundes like the ambiguity in the CBA has led the Chargers to worry that if they tried to give Sproles the lowest tender that they might eventually be forced into giving him the 110% raise if it went before a judge (or arbitrator or wherever these things go).
Acee laid this out in his mailbag recently: http://www.signonsandiego.com/bigmailbag/chargers/2010/Feb/26/kevin-espn-is-reporting-that-the-charger/

So what you're saying is....
The Rams are crossing their fingers that an arbitrator rules in their favor.
"When they come for me I'll be sitting at my desk, with a gun in my hand wearing a bullet-proof vest, singing 'My, my, my, how the time does fly when you know you're going to die by the end of the night.'" - Catch 22
another note from Florio
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/04/a-caveat-on-the-lowest-level-rfa-tender/
The non-110% tender lasts until June 1st. At which time the team either has to up it to 110% or let the player become unrestricted. First time I’ve hear that. Florio is an ex-lawyer so he might know (or know someone who would know)
I bet the Chargers just told Sproles “We have a contract for $X for Y years waiting for you if you want it. Take a look around and come back if you don’t find something better”

From Adam Shefter
Look for Raiders to release RB Justin Fargas and DT Gerard Warren before they have to pay their roster bonuses in the coming days.
I’d gladly take Fargas to be the Chargers backup RB.

Chargers need to go hard after Morrison
getting him for a third round pick is a steal!

do you think he is a significant enough upgrade over Siler
to potentially give up a Louis Vasquez type player (our 3rd round pick from last year) in the draft?
by Stephen (shaynes41) on Mar 4, 2010 2:57 PM PST up reply actions
I think he would replace Cooper
He is younger, a better player and a better leader.
And yes I would rather have Morrison than a Louis Vasquez type player who may or may not be there in the third round.
