The Broncos 2010 Defense
Jamal Williams - 33
Jarvis Green - 31
Justice Bannan - 30
Brian Dawkins - 36
Champ Bailey - 31
Renaldo Hill - 31
Andre Goodman - 31
Last year they also brought in Ty Law at 36. I know veterans are pretty savvy, but that's an old crew.

No makey fun of JWill.
Respect, man, respect.
The rest of those guys y’all can laugh at. But Dawk is the only one who’s older than me.

Aw, come on man
I have the greatest respect for Jamal’s time as a Charger; but it’s not like I never cracked wise about his svelte figure and age when he was a bolt. It’s the middle of the endless off season, let’s have a bit of fun. I understand the Chargers cut him; he has to look after his future and his family, but he’s a Bronco now, and in the words of that great philosopher, Superchicken, he knew the job was dangerous when he took it. I mean, my god man, a Bronco, it’s only a matter of time until they have him watching Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and going to Supercuts.
And while I’m kidding, I’m kidding on the square, that is an old defense by any measure and it has implications for the upcoming season in terms of their speed and durability. I still consider the Broncos the closest challenger, and I’m interested in any and all weaknesses.

for the Supercuts and Dr. Quinn refereneces. It’s the perfect profile of a Bronco fan.
You’re the guy who said "pull the ol’ bobblehead out every once in a while and play with it" but forgot to mention that wasn’t a euphemism.
Thanks for getting me kicked out of the library. Again.

Age is everything...
Age is everything, aches, pain, lost step and usually a smarter cheating mind.
If those guys stay upright, they will help immensely….big if
Jamal though could be good for 2 years, the Chargers may regret it if he is
Ty Law just doesn’t have gas in the tank as starter, maybe nickel. Dawkins still nice presence, but coverage skills not there. Champ can still play; the rest aren’t worth much in my little mind
Btw i wouldn’t want to race Darrel Green, over 40 ad retired is still looking good

Only the best players
Can survive until 37-38. Positions that require speed are going to be a lot tougher to hang on at past 30. I’d say that’s actually more true now than it used to be.

EXCEPT FOR ROID BOY MERRIMAN
HE HURT HIS KNEE CUZ OF HE GOT OFF THE JUICE, HURR HURR HURR
I do agree with all the above points— the positions that require speed and skill will be largely populated by under-30’s. Linemen don’t need to be particularly agile, so Bannan and Jamal might hang in there a few more years, and Champ is still tops as a CB, but the rest of the guys on that list are set for a steep decline.
Yup, I'm the nut who believes Mark Loretta is a possible future Hall of Famer.

I think this is a major factor in last year's collapse.
They were healthy and winning, until one day they weren’t.

For the most part
They stayed healthy all season. They were just ridiculously healthy for the first 6-8 games.

Yeah, that's basically the one major injury to the Broncos
Whereas the Chargers had about a dozen injuries that resulted in similar losses in games played (but probably only 4 or 5 that happened to guys that were currently starters). If that’s the downfall of the Broncos, so be it, but it was still a very healthy team.

Agree with Wonko
SD was much more injured that the Broncos. We were fairly healthy all season. Yes, Harris was injured, but you tell me one team that didn’t have a starter get injured last season and miss some games. I can’t think of any off hand.

The Broncos keep hiring old men
And when the comp picks are awarded every year they ignore the reason why other teams are improving and they arent.
If we finish with the same record as last year
Then I’ll tip my hat to this comment, but as things stand its fairly ignorant. To say we haven’t improved is really quite an undersight.
I respect your opinion, and I’m not here to troll….but this is a post soley aimed at our team and I love a good discussion,
But what we have here is a team in its second year ever. We are not the shanny broncos. We are a team with experienced veterans and younger players under them who will learn their poise and skills.
It is only a matter of time, (barring some unforseen metldown) before Denver regains its place as sole leader of the AFC West. For now its a crapshoot between you and us but….only a matter of time.

This sounds like rhetoric from someone who has been drinking too much McD Kool Aid.

haha well played, but at the same time my thoughts have sound reasoning behind them.

alright,
I mean I’m not going to sit here and pretend I can change the mind of someone who is unwilling to consider that maybe McD has a plan.
I am not the best with examples and stating a case so I will drop it. but all I’m saying is we ARE getting better, and we ARE going to dominate the AFC west again soon.

That was funny. I will have bug one of my brother in-laws. He is a huge Denver fan (he has actually made the trip to Denver a few times).
Thanks
I may be old but I... oh d*mn, I forgot what I was going to say.

Excellent point, DaBolts.
I imagine most will play fewer downs than they have in the past, to keep them as healthy and fresh as possible for as long as possible, perhaps the entire season. There will no doubt be some injuries and some of those will be season ending. But if enough can stay healthy and fresh, the younger talent around them may benefit from all that experience.
It kind of reminds me of the way the Patriots have done things. Now, I don’t think the Patriots ever had elite defenses, but they have had some very good ones.
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!
The 2003 Patriots Defense
Was pretty darn close to elite.

2004 wasn't too bad either, IIRC.
Also, that 2007 defense of theirs was stifling until the Super Bowl.
Clippers // Chargers // Rays // Panthers // Gators // Boise State
But 2003
Was the only year where their productivity approached elite. The 2004 and 2007 versions had similar talent, but not the same level of production.

I guess what I'm saying is...
if I was a young, up and coming player and I had a chance to play beside and learn from a future Hall of Faamer, even if it was during the last season or two of his career, I would think I had died and gone to heaven. Imagine what I could learn.

Just wait and see..
All we can do is wait and see how this plays out. It is a good thing for our younger players.
I have been saying "there is always next year" since 1998..
What young players?
The Broncos havent drafted and developed a decent defensive linemen in a decade.
IMO
Well
They drafted Dumervil, but when they switched to the 3-4 they had to move him to OLB. But he totally played on the line for a couple of seasons.

give the new regime a chance and you will see
I mean no offense, but SD’s system aint doin much for them either……

New regime
Same off season strategy, sign scrubs from other teams and donate comp picks to the Pats. Im starting to think McD has given more comp to NE then should be allowed.
