Needing Some Assistance

Hey guys Tomahawk44 here. I was just wondering if you guys would help me out with my pick in Arrowhead Pride mock draft. I will be picking for the Chargers. I have a couple of ideas such as Ryan Matthews or a NT in the first but I was wondering what you guys think your biggest needs are and who would you draft? Thanks for any ideas!

I will let you guys know when I make the selection if you would like to see and chat about it over there. It will be a little while before Im up the Lions just made their pick earlier today haha

Thanks!

Tomahawk44

T. Thomas (WR) if he’s still up
Any of the big tackles if still up…
Cody otherwise…
in fact this is a lot of work, just pick somebody who doesn’t suck. We like beating you.
you should get good players for yourself because that has been too easy to do for a while now.

buuuuuurrrrrrnnnnnnn

fair enough...

our time will come though… :)
I was thinking if Cody was on the board thats who I would take since you lost Williams but I dont think Sproles can be an every down back (as much as I like him) and think he needs some help with a bigger back like Matthews

the upcapped year is screwing everything up because now

5 guys on the team are making a faction of what they could on the open market. so AJ might have to draft to replace them. It’s really totally up in the air.

M. McNiel
D. Sproles
V. Jackson
M. Folyd
S. Merriman

So you might go in other than strict need at NT and or RB?

a good WR or maybe 3-4 OLB
Marcus McNeill is only in his fourth season a Tackle

yep. AJ will do his thing. I think he wants a tackle because McNiel wants to walk

I mean, he’s a nice guy an all, and he seems to like the chargers but if he was a free agent he’d be getting made insane money. Washington and a bunch of other big-market teams want him.

"Screwing everything up"?

If it weren’t an uncapped year those guys might not be on the roster this year. It’s a good thing that they are all still here.

No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong.

You are correct that the chargers and AJ have advantages with the uncapped year with those rookie contracts automatically extended.

I don’t know all the details. Here’s my understanding: If the league had a salary cap in place then the Chargers would be in a position to keep the big-name guys because they would have the same amount of money as the big market teams. But because there is an uncapped year the above 5 know they can go get significantly more somewhere else and instead of taking the safe long-term contract with the chargers for less money they’ll risk injuries and wait til their rookie contract runs out.

So the uncapped year giveth and taketh away

I don't know why Cody would go in the first

But if he and Dan Williams are gone then a RB like Matthews is ideal. Jahvid Best is also fine.

You could deviate to other positions, but NT and RB are the ones that will have the most impact in 2010. So they are a higher priority than others. The Chargers will probably have an eye out for when they can get good value for CB, OT, OLB, ILB or WR, but not at the expense of taking a NT or RB of similar value at a spot.

There’s also no guarantee Sproles will be a part of the team in 2010. So don’t be too set on picking someone just because Sproles has a certain role on the team.

NT is hard to fill

if you can get a guy to be a great NT for 2 downs. that’s better then no downs. Cody is worth the risk. It’ll be hard to find a Jay Ratliff in the 6th round

by not humble enough on Mar 16, 2010 10:57 PM PDT up reply actions

As discussed before

Saying he’s good for “2 downs” is oversimplifying things. How often does the defense play just a first, second and then third down in a row and give the ball back. He’ll have to keep going back out there and there may not be 3rd downs to rest. And, of course, if he’s like this at age 22, what’s he going to be like in 2,3,4,5 years?

I respect your arguments. We’ve both gotten our views out. This blog will last forever so in 2,3,4 or 5 years we can check and see how cody is doing.

(i’ll be right)

Cody isn't a first round talent.

Matthews or Best.

Spiller or Williams if they somehow fall that far.

2 downs if better then nothing. Our line sucked last year.

Demaryius Thomas in the first round? Why? I know he’s big and all, but that guy is a project. He played in a stupid triple option college offense. I don’t want that guy in any of the first 3 rounds.

by BORTZ on Mar 17, 2010 8:38 AM PDT up reply actions

He’s a physical beast, smart, hard-working and clean off the field. We have a deep receiver field but we’ll be losing two of the guys soon. Bring him in and develop him.

by not humble enough on Mar 17, 2010 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions

the chargers have needs now and he does not merit a first round selection.

by BORTZ on Mar 17, 2010 12:31 PM PDT up reply actions

if you have a chance at an awesome player, you should take it. Need matters but talent is most important

I would sooner take Golden Tate, Damian Williams, or even Eric Decker

Yup, I'm the nut who believes Mark Loretta is a possible future Hall of Famer.

by StrangeBroP25 on Mar 19, 2010 3:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Thomas is a better prospect than all of those guys

Although if you took a poll of experts it’d probably be a 50/50 split between Thomas and Tate.

What do you guys think about that Mock b BOLTHYPE (linked on your main page) drafting McCourty in the first?

by random122 on Mar 16, 2010 5:09 PM PDT reply actions

I like him, but...

I feel like our 1st round needs are elsewhere. The simple truth is AJ is likely to do anything, and his berth is wide. Just about any move would be a good one. (Although I’ve heard from an unreliable inside source that AJ’s fallen in love with Ben Tate. It scares me to think that he would somehow value him over Mathews or Best or the other six freakin’ RBs that every team has on their boards above him and reach for him!)

Why does nobody talk about Brian Price as a pick

Big, Fast, excellent pass rushing DT from UCLA who most have slotted late first round. Im biased as a UCLA fan but I think he’d be a steal at 28 if we go tackle. Thoughts??

by buffsnbruins on Mar 16, 2010 5:33 PM PDT reply actions

From what I’ve read, he’s more suitable for a 4-3.

by random122 on Mar 16, 2010 6:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Because he’s ill-suited to playing in a 34 defense.

we got a deep tackle group.

Cesaire, Bingham, Castillo, Vaugh (young learning monster), Johnson (always injured 1st round talent). Fitting a first-rounder in there is tough

by not humble enough on Mar 16, 2010 10:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Mathews, Best, Wilson, or Cody could all be argued for

Our needs are RB, NT, CB, and OT
