Serious Business: 3/16 Chargers Links
Fate of Bolts’ free agents up in the air - SignOnSanDiego.com
None of the players or their agents reached this week were ready to declare that they would skip offseason conditioning, coaching sessions, minicamp and/or training camp. But neither did anyone deny that holding out was a good business move.
Cardinals On The Verge Of Signing QB Charlie Whitehurst - Revenge Of The Birds
Personally, I'd rather not give up a 3rd round pick for an unproven quarterback. At the very most I'd like to see a 6th from this year and maybe something from 2011 or 2012. Shaun Hill was recently traded to the Lions for a 7th round pick in 2011, and Hill has a lot more experience over Whitehurst. Either way it appears we will be hearing very soon on whether or not Whitehurst will be wearing red and white next season.
Bill Parcells' Rules For Drafting ... And Life - SB Nation
Just in time for draft day, via ESPN, take a look at these handy rules for drafting a quarterback courtesy of Bill Parcells, who would know, I suppose:
Monday Morning Quarterback - SI.com
SI's Jim Trotter had good detail on what made up Tomlinson's mind for New York over Minnesota (the Jet scheme was the same, he knew offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer well from his days on the San Diego coaching staff, and Brett Favre's playing uncertainty made the Vikings a bit of an unknown). I believe there were one or two other factors as well.
Chargers 2010 Mock Draft 2.0
In our second Chargers mock draft of 2010, BOLTHYPE predicts the Chargers will address the losses of Antonio Cromartie, Ladainian Tomlinson, and Jamal Williams early as they try to replace the three Pro Bowlers.

he has said he would decide by today
but technically, the last day to sign offer sheets is mid April-ish

RotB seems to beleive that he had only a certain amount of time to decide
once he was officially given the offers.

I think what you are thinking of
is that the Chargers only have 7 days to match the offer sheet after it is signed by the player.

That sounds right.

No
when a team extends a RFA an offer sheet he has 48 hours to sign.

i did not know that
is that in the CBA? I was looking for it, and I couldn’t find it.

It says both teams made him offers
And he has 48hrs to make his decision which makes no sense, unless the offer becomes voided after that time frame; which still means nothing cause they could go right back on the table.
I read the article and saw where they said he has 48 hours to decide. Does he have 48 hrs to decide because that is how RFA tender offers work (per the CBA), or because the cards have told him the offer will be pulled in 48 hours if he doesn’t agree, or because Chuck said he wanted to mull things over for 48 hrs and that mulling over period has morphed into a 48 hr hard deadline thru the magics of the internets?
I don’t know. If it’s in the CBA I haven’t seen it, but would like to know (since we may have other RFAs tendered offers). I tend to think the 48 hrs is not cast in stone anywhere since I haven’t read that anywhere else.

There's nothing in the CBA that says that Ive seen
My guess is the teams place contract guidelines on the table, that are subject to be voided after 48 hrs. Like Mortgage parameters. It doesnt mean much of anything considering he could just be bringing team As offer to team B, and vice versa. Thats what Id be doing if I was him; holding my very own auction so to speak.
I'm not sure how that works.

it also may be
that the seahawks and Cardinals told him that there is a deadline for him to accept or the offer will be withdrawn, but I haven’t heard that outside of that RotB article above. I know Charlie Clipboard said he wanted to make his decision within 48 hrs, which would be sometime today.
either way, we will probably know today.

Something else is going on here IMO
Seattle has like the richest owner in football; if they wanted him I’m pretty sure they could just throw a ton of money at him. My guess is its taking a long time because this deal with Seattle includes pieces we are not considering.
I'd also accept a trade with Seattle
which involved us moving up to #14 overall. Woot CJ Spiller!

For Clipboard Jesus sake
Charlie just pick a team and sign a contract already. I will be happy to get any pick in any round for the guy, he has never been a factor here and never will be a factor here. In fact if nobody gets hurt in Seattle or Arizona there is a decent chance that he will not play a “real” down in the NFL again next season or maybe even in his entire career.
you say that now
but how will you feel next year when some small college scrub doesn’t hold the clipboard with the same messianic flair?

Maybe we could pick up
one of those sign spinner guys that you see on the side of the road. That would liven up the clipboard holding spot on the roster a little and I am sure that we could sign one for the league minimum.
