LaDainian Tomlinson, a Jet
Its happened. Our Running Back has signed a two year contract with the New York Jets. It's quite sad to see him gone, but great to see he's still in the League, and out to prove his doubters wrong.
Why the Jets? An excellent, if not the best O-line in football, which will be a focal point of his rushing to come. San Diego had a very weak line last season due in part to injuries, so it will be interesting to see how well he fits under an elite like like New York. Sanchez may still be on a tight leash, so that means lots of running on 1st and 2nd down, leaving L.T. to come in on 3rd and take a handoff 2 or 3 (or 40) yards for a first (touch) down. It means dump-offs, screens, and drag routes and backfield leaks. All summing up to one thing; Touches. He'll likely finish the year with 170 touches and double digit touchdowns.
New York has a very tight defense. No, the left side of the secondary will not do any good tackling, thanks to newly aquired cornerback Antonio Cro "just had my nails done" martie. But depending on him tackling would be a result of the front 7 not stopping the offense up front, which doesn't happen much, so Cro will play to his strengths. But its not about him, its about Tomlinson.
L.T. will be a positive influence and factor for the young group in Green. More than likely, he will be respected for his wisdom and knowledge and experience, which he will use to make himself an important part of the offense. I wish LaDainian the absolute best. Be it a Super Bowl victory in a different uniform, a Pro Bowl appearance, CPOTY award, or any combination thereof. Whatever happens, hopefully its enough to make AJ Smith regret letting him walk, and L.T. fans everywhere proud to wear their powder blue or green jerseys.

I think
LT is going to have a pretty decent year. He’s driven and out to prove people wrong, but most importantly, he’s got an O-line that could make almost any back look decent.
Depends what you mean by good year
Will he produce any better than most other backs put in his same situation? No.
Will he put up numbers that make him look good? Yes.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong.

LT had more rushing yards than Greene last year
Can’t forget about that, huh?

He had fewer DYAR and a lower DVOA, though.

we won’t know his situation until the season starts, and after 4 or 5 games, we’ll be able to correctly judge just how effective he was. Thomas Jones averaged 4.2 ypc. If LT does any better, well then he was a successful addition.

I love LT
but he is done. He won’t reach 1000 yards rushing, his average per carry might approach 4.0, but only if he is used sparingly. I think he will contribute, but unless the Jets cut loose Washington, LT might not even see that many touches.
I don’t see AJ regretting his decision.

Unless Greene gets injured severely, LT probably won’t get 1,000 yards. But more than likely, he’ll average more than 4 yards per carry, if only due to New York’s superior O Line. If everything goes to a normal tune, expect 120 carries and 60 receptions, and 900 all purpose yards with 4 TDs.
by Superduperboltman on Mar 15, 2010 10:41 AM PDT up reply actions
If they keep Washington
then I don’t see how LT can get close to 60 receptions. I can see him getting 100 or so carries, he will probably average 3.5 yards a carry.
All Charger fans should now officially have a second favorite team
There is no reason to not cheer for the Jets at this point (unless, of course, the Chargers meet them in the playoffs again). We can still cheer for LT on a week-to-week basis as he drives towards the top of the record books, and if the Jets manage to pull off the division title we get a better draft pick next year. I hope I am not alone in becoming a “behind closed doors” Jets fan.

you won't be alone
I’ll be cheering for him. Not necessarily the team, but definitely Tomlinson.

That's just silly.
I’ve never rooted for the Jets and I’m not going to start just because they signed an ex-Charger.

I was thinking that them winning the division improves our draft position as well
So as a supporter of the Chargers it makes sense to embrace a Jets divisional
championship next year because it can help improve the Chargers.

Their success doesn't mean anything for our draft position.
The only thing that matters is how much playing time Cromartie gets, which unless he gets hurt should be a lot.

It basically assures
That if the Jets have a high second round pick, we can’t get it. So, it pretty much will end up being a mid to low 2nd round pick or a mid to high 3rd rounder.

did you root for that Patriots
when Seau and Harrison were there?
by Steve (Grey Suit) on Mar 15, 2010 2:41 PM PDT up reply actions
No, 'Cause I absolutely detest the Patriots
But I would be lying if I said I didn’t root for the Saints and Brees a little bit since he left.
I find it strange that as soon as LT was cut its almost like Chargers fans forgot he carried
the franchise for 7 years. I’m not saying that I’ll cheer for anyone who leaves,
but come on, if it takes the Jets winning games to help push LT up the lists,
then I’ll be cheering for the Jets.

It's because he went to the Jets
If he went to the Vikes, Bolt fans wouldn’t have such a sour taste in their mouth.

The only time
I root for ex-Chargers is if I have some sort of allegiance to them beyond the Chargers. If there wasn’t a reason I rooted for a guy is because he was on the Chargers, then I’m not going to root for him on another team.
However, since he’s not a Bronco, Raider or Chief, I won’t wish bad things to happen to him.

Man my home town is Brooklyn and I love LT and I still AINT rooting for the Jets! I will root for LT but if they are playing the Jets then I am rooting for the D to stop LT. i’m a Die Hard Bolt! I mean it sucks that he was let go and i hope that when he decides to call it quits the bolts will do the honerable thing like Jerry Jones did for Emmitt and sign LT to a 1 week deal so that he will end his career with us like it should be. but if AJ is still around then that may not happen either.
I wonder if LT will remember this little stunt
Shonn Greene TD celebration
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=358_VS6yHdE
he may do something about it
Probably a heart to heart talk with Greene as far as maintaining a level of class and respect.

The fact that Greene even knows the TD celebration
Is probably a sign that he respects what LT has done. You don’t usually go around mocking the worst player on the opposing team, you mock the best.

Hey guys, some good stuff in here, on the LT/Greene TD thing today, he said it was fine and he hopes that Green does it a lot this season. Definitely said all the right things in his conference today about finding his role with the team, not expecting anything, and coming out to prove he still has something left. He will probably also be delighted that we have just signed FB Tony Richardson who for most peoples money, is still one of the premier run blockers in the league, even at 38. So it’s all set up for LT this season, it will really show whether he has anything left in the tank. No reason why he shouldn’t, we have a good O-line, good FB and two excellent blocking wide receivers on the edge. Excited to see how he does.

LT should do okay over there.
The Jets have a great O-line and he should be able to help them in short yardage situations, and rack up a bunch of TDs in the process. Don’t expect too much out of him on runs to the outside though. He no longer possesess the speed he once had and the LBs are just as fast if not faster than him now. Also, he has been somewhat injury prone the past few years so hopefully having a decreased role will help.
by SoCalBoltFan on Mar 16, 2010 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions
Yer not expecting the 2006 LT, but definitely expecting him to raise that 3.3 avg back up to around 4.0. Looking forward to seeing how Schotty uses him, he said that was one of the main reasons he came here because we run a similar offence to what you guys used to run under Marty. Were hoping that the Greene/LT and Leon combination will be able to do some damage this season.

As Wonko pointed out earlier
He’ll do better than he did here because of a better run-blocking offensive line. But he won’t do significantly better than an average RB in the same situation. The stuff that made him special is gone.

Don't get it for Jets
Thomas Jones has more tread on his tires left than LT – this move barely saved them half a mil. TJ is a hard inside runner who moves the chains; LT isn’t anymore and tried valiantly at the end of last year but to like less than 3 yards per carry. Leon Washington is just like Darren Sproles (with “long speed”) which was the problem with LT staying here and becoming a 3rd down scat back which I think would be his best role.
Lottery balls land on DeMarcus Cousins baby.
by bringbackbuddytrees on Mar 16, 2010 3:40 PM PDT reply actions
he averaged 3.3 ypc.
And Neither Darren Sproles nor Michael Bennett did any better.
Norv only has 8 run plays, and the line, being injured most of the year for one, and two, not being a runblocking unit anymore.

Norv may only have 8 run plays
But I bet the Jets have less.

Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
Jets have 8 plays for each back. Norv has 8 plays total and he runs them over and over and over again!
I think Marty had less than that

Just my opinion but.....
I think LT has an okay year…decides to retire to be with the baby more and retires a charger after next season….therefore allowing me to don my LT jerseys once again….Just saying…..
sounds reasonable
I personally think he’ll play his 2 years in NY, then hopefully, AJ Smith develops something resembling a heart, and signs him for one year to let him have his dozen years in the NFL and finish with the team where his heart lies. Maybe by then, he’ll be the charm that gets us a Ring. Thats just a back-of-mind fantasy though. It could happen. :)

I am glad to see he got leave SD with dignity and respect
Everyone knew it was coming but no one booed and cursed him.
At least we aren't the Raiders?
No you can bet your ass the jets will play the chargers in SD on monday night this season just because thats how goddell will try and capitolize off of this whole thing
Jets and Chargers don't play each other
The Chargers play the AFC South this year and only play the AFC East division winner, which was the Patriots.

We will be going to NY next year though.(2011)
If the 2 year contract is still good, LT will have a chance to run through his old teams’ defense.
