From working out others teams RFA while having of desire to sign them until they become a UFA?

This occurred to me the other day that maybe teams are working out Charlie Clipboard with an eye towards a backup job in 2011 when it won’t cost them a draft pick.

I'm not sure why a team would burn time and resources on a potential backup QB for next year
when there are a ton of pro-days and other FA signing for next years team going on right now.
Especially when there may not even be any football next season.
