Serious Business: 3/12 Chargers Links
Cromartie: From sizzle to fizzle - SignOnSanDiego.com
He was accosted at least twice by linebacker Shawne Merriman in the past year over a lack of effort, and several teammates have quietly wished him good riddance.
Blount blows off Pro Day | ProFootballTalk.com
Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, whose career was derailed by a 10-game suspension imposed after he punched a guy following the first game of the 2009 season, blew off his Pro Day workout, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com.
Three And Out: March 11, 2010
The Chargers attended Cal's pro day yesterday, much as they would any other school workout. But while most are correctly assuming they have their eye on Jahvid Best, don't discount the possibility that they also have real interest in defensive end/tackle Tyson Alualu.
Too Many Bolts Bolting For Other Teams?
Jamal Williams is out (for now, at least), and Kassim Osgood has moved on officially. Meanwhile, does Darren Sproles' 1st-and-3rd tender mean the Chargers will keep the running back, or trade him come draft day? Chris and Chris discuss the uncapped year, and if the Chargers will be able to withstand the losses of so many talented players:

I'm still having a hard time believing people think LT can be a 3rd down back
or good receiver coming out of the backfield. Did any of these people watch Chargers games last year? It’s in open space that his decline is most apparent. He can’t make anyone miss or break tackles anymore.

Not based on the Times article
as I haven’t read it*, but I think the Jets need someone to spell off Shone Green. I assume that Leon Washington will still be the 3rd down back.

It is funny since he came out in third down situations last year.

In his defense, Sproles is really good in those situations

baseless speculation
I’ve been watching Merriman’s twitter feed and notice he’s been in a couple NFL cities the last couple of days. He spent time in Baltimore/DC and now he is in NY. I’m sure there are a thousand other reasons he could be in those cities (he was in Baltimore for the Ed Block awards), but I wonder if he is making some low key free agent visits. I’m betting that no one is willing to give up a 1st and 3rd for him, but might he and the other teams be gauging interest before trying to strike a deal with the Chargers for less than a 1st and 3rd? The Jets, Ravens, and Skins all run a 3-4.
As I said, this is baseless speculation. But if he stops in KC or Denver on the way back to SD, I might get worried.

Meh he is from Baltimore
and I could see him wanting to go to NYC whie he is on the east coast. If he was going to more random NFL towns like Cleveland, Green Bay or Detroit I would be a bit more worried.

Yup, This
I know he went to Maryland’s Pro Day while he was in that area too.

DE instead of a killer NT
I see that Dan Williams is a bad ass and he’d be a good (nay – great) pickup. But with our injury-laden ends i can see why we would want to look and some young talent. With OG, our resident Canadian Rasta, Boone, and Trap, our nose is pretty secure. So if we were to get a rabid NT, he’d be a tame shrew if opposing tight ends were doing the book end work and giving our nose worse hell than a party at Rick James’ house. And drafting a known NT and changing him to DE will give him a case of the Larry Englishs (Who, hopefully will be rid of it by the start of game season).

I'm not sure what you are trying to say
But, just in the fact that we are bringing back Johnson and Boone to go with Martin and Castillo it looks like A.J. is done shopping for DEs.

Other than Castillo, aren’t those guys tackles?
"Watch out where the huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow."- Zappa
Nope
They are all primarily DEs in the Chargers 3-4 defense. Nwagbuo and Ian Scott got most of the snaps a NT. I believe some of the others rotated in. I know in interviews when Johnson and Martin were asked about their position on defense they always answered DE.

Keep in mind
The Chargers don’t usually end up drafting guys that people link them to before selection weekend. For all we know, they send scouts to find out about players so that they have reports on them before playing against them in the NFL.

Alualu looks pretty good
I don’t follow much college football, but watching that highlight reel of him makes him look pretty good. Several times he beat double and triple teams and still made the tackle. For a loss even! This is something our DEs have not done for a while.
It also made me realize how horrible UCLA’s O-Line is.
If I agreed with you, we would both be wrong
