shawnemerriman: I might take my "high" tender money and donate it this year what you think about that?
I find your "righteous" indignity laughable. That's what I think.

I think we need to just back away from this for a while
I’m also a little baffled that he is this surprised about his tender. But let’s not pretend that there isn’t a big financial penalty he is incuring through no direct fault of his own. The difference between the ~$3M salary he is going to get next year and the potential free agent deal he would have signed is significant. Any of us would be bitter about missing out on a proportional amount of money at our jobs. A guy like Merriman as been looking forward to his second contract for some time and to have to defer it for a year (at least) has to suck. Let the dude blow off some steam…

I just would think that his anger should be directed at the union or the league
But, his comments make it seem like the Chargers are the ones screwing him. Maybe it’s just general indignation and I’m just missing something.
I'm the first person to admit that I'm wrong about a lot of things, but I'm going to be the last person to admit I'm wrong about what we're currently talking about.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
you're right
It is mis-directed, I just think he is frustrated about having to wait another year (or two if there is a lockout) before getting his big-money second contract. I don’t think we should read too much into his comments or hold them against him, we should just let it go…

Sure, sure
But its getting play as Chargers-news-like-substance. So it deserves to get some chatter here as well.

I'd think that by now...
News that Merriman, Cromartie or Jackson said/did something stupid is somewhat unsurprising for Charger fans.
I love my team of historically talented underachievers.
I don't think anyone finds it surprsing
It’s that you can make fun of it. So, thereby, it gets chatter.

Shouldn't he consider it a bit of a pass, another chance to earn it
You get another year to improve your level of play, if the guy can cover his mouth with production (i.e. 14-16 sacks) the 30 million in guaranteed money will be there if not from the chargers, from some other team.
Coming of a 4 sack season, on the perception of being injury prone, Merriman is not getting more than 12 mill in guarantees, nor more than 5 mill per year. Shawne I would actually be happy. The 2010 season is not the season I would want to sell to the rest of the NFL to cash in.
Pretty much.
Indignant as it is, he’s really just blowing off steam.
He’s openly admitted on his past tweets that he’s been concerned at the RFA/UFA changes that come with no CBA this year. Additionally, the knee injury and the mediocre past year has seriously hurt his market value. He would have made much more money if he hit the market now. Instead he’ll have another year of wear/tear on the body and more time for teams to see if his play really has fallen off because of the injury.
Though I will say, it is amusing reading twitter comments from his followers that read “oh that’s so generous, it’s good to hear a positive story in the NFL, it’s so cool you’re donating to charity, etc.”
I love my team of historically talented underachievers.

Yes
Its been posted in this blog already. We were arguing over where it would be a 3rd, a 4th or a possible swap of picks.

I see that the Detriot News is speculating on what is will take.
I’ll Fan Shot it.

Huh?? Okay, maybe I'm naive...
…but that’s not how I read his comment. I believe he’s saying “high tender” money, not “high” (read sarcastically) tender money. Do you see the difference? When an RFA is assigned the 1st and 3rd round tender, that’s considered the “highest tender.” He’s simply referring to the money he received for being assigned that tender. He’s not passing any judgment, or being indignant or sarcastic.
Now, if someone has something that implies that there is a level of frustration — which, don’t get me wrong, I would understand if there were — that would be a different story. But if we’re just going off this 17 word Twitter post, that seems a bit presumptuous.

This has been a series of tweets
I just found the content of this one to be the most laughable.

Might
You “might” give the money to charity Lights. You’re a freakin pathetic joke bro, if you dont pony up some cash now. Saying you might give to charity is punk dude, just like me telling a troll I might have change for him after I get out of 7-11.
You’re upset with the tender I get that, but dude you didnt do much of anything last year remember? What do I think? I think you should put down your blackberry and pick up a clue.
Twitter.
The worst thing that ever happened to professional sports.
This off-season officially sucks for FIVE reasons and counting...
Sniff...I might cry
Sniff…I might cry..or not,
He benefited from the league development and union contract. Now at this particular time it doesn’t work to his advantage. Well, instead chasing the past injury year with Fox, he could put effort in at the union to help get a deal done.
At the end of the day, he gets to put his feet on a nice pile of cash….me I have to dump out my coffee holder and my kids change jar so I get my foot off the ground. So I have no tears for his hurt feelings.

Per my earlier post...

I wasnt aware that was the part of the post that was sarcastic. I thought the part of the post where he threatened to give his money to charity was the part where everyone knew he was ignorant.
Hmm...
So maybe I misunderstood the misunderstanding. You know, sometimes technology BLOWS!

He better keep that money and save it
Because due to an unfortunate set of circumstances, he doesn’t get his cash-in day on a critical year for him. He has to wait, which means he has to show during this coming year the knee is recovered and he won’t be dragging it around like last year. If he could go FA, somebody would take a chance on him. Now he has to prove it for relatively little $$$. And I’m of the opinion, that burst that made him so great is gone.
